Hi guys,

This may be a dumb question but why is there two sets of frequency specs for every speaker. I see the difference is the -9db. can someone translate this into simple terms for me?

The reason I ask this is because I set my recent purchase (awesome ) vp150 to a small speaker on my receiver. I am now debating on whether to set the crossover (from small to large speakers) at 50 or 80hz. Based on the info below I dont know whether to set it to 80hz (the first spec) or to 50hz (the second spec)

Specs for VP150
Freq Resp +/-3dB (Hz) 85-22K
Freq Resp +3dB/-9dB (Hz) 50-22K

Thanks

Hello imagoman

I'd set the VP150 to 'small.' Frequencies below the speaker's 3db drop off are probably best handled by your sub, so you may as well relieve your center of the effort of producing frequencies lower than 80 Hz.

Yes, you definitely wouldn't want a crossover lower than 80Hz. The VP150s are down significantly more at 50Hz and a little weakness in the 50-80Hz area would result. Incidentally, assuming that you're using a sub, the crossover is from the "small" speakers to that, not the other speakers.

Thanks for the help guys, sounds great! Had a few days to break in my new m60's and vp150 , I have to say that I am very impressed!

The question is ....what do I get next...QS8's or SVS pb2-plus, hmmmmmmmm............

if you dont have a sub at all, then get a sub.. that is the 'meat and potatoes' of any HT system. if you do have a sub, then get the QS8's first. then improve your sub at a later date.

I have a SVS pb2plus sub and I think it is awesome. It is quite an overkill for my room dimension. This just means I just turn it down substantially. The addition of it to my system was tremendous. In HT use it provides an experience like non other.

As an example I went to the public movie theater and watch Ruddik (Vin Diesel). I paid particular attention to the audio during the movie. I now cant wait to purchase the dvd so I can hear it on my system. It is funny that movie theaters no longer provide the awe inspiring experience they once did. My expectations have obviously raised dramatically.

Also keep in mind that delivery from SVS, especially on that model, is usually a few weeks out. It is a long few weeks wait. Well worth it, but my suggestion would be to order it before you are ready and pretend your still thinking about it .
