Hello,
Brand new to this forum and have got alot of useful info reading the posts.
Was originally looking at getting Atlantic Technology gear but am pushing more towards an Axiom setup.
I have a Kenwood VR-6070 receiver and am thinking of going with:
M60 towers
QS4 surrounds
VP150 Center
room size is medium to large
Am looking at a VTF-2 MK 2 for the sub.
Haven't seen any reviews for Axiom subs and was wondering how they compare with other brands such as the MK 2?
Thanks and happy to be aboard,
Maxx42
The general thought on Axiom subs is that they are perfectly fine subs...but for the price you can get a bit better. Such as the Hsu that you've got your eye on.
The Axiom subs are great subs I am running three of them two 175's and one 350. I have been very pleased with them once I got them setup right (placement wise that is). I am not familiar with the HSU subs, but have done comparisons against Velodyne, Mirage, and JM labs. I could not say with any definitive certainty that the more expensive JM and Velodyne sounded any better or made my system any better then the Axioms. The only factor that I could see as pointed out by spiffnme is price.
As Spiff says HSU subs are a great sub for the money.I just picked up a B-stock VTF-2MK1 for $300.00 shipping included. Now I run 2 of them stacked in the corner and man they sure do sound good.Hey Spiff you ought to think about getting another MK1 to go with the one you already have, you can get about +6 db with two.It would about the same output as a STF-3.
The one I have is more than enough rumble for a townhouse. If/when I ever live in a stand alone house, I'll likely sell off my VTF-2 and have dual 1220HO's (or the current Hsu king at that time) in my HT room.
My current neighbors haven't had the treat of hearing my system yet...
I have an EP175 and I've always had a sneaking suspicion I could probably do better elsewhere, particularly with HSU. On the other hand, it's well-built and sounds great.
its always been one of those questions that could go either way.. i dont think you will find a single person that would say that axiom is a bad sub.. but more like, for the price, you can find a better sub.
HSU STF-1/STF-2
SVS PB-1/PB+
more bang for the similar buck.. but with the axioms, its cool to get the sub in the same finish as the rest of the speakers.

Thats sounds good, I had asked Dr.Hsu about the Vtf-3 and he pointed me in the direction of another Vtf-2MK1.He could have very well sold me a more expensive sub but recommended another Vtf-2MK1.Nice to do buissness with such an honest man.
Just to play devil's advocate, have you considered that perhaps the good doctor's profit margin on the VTF-2 is possibly greater than that of the VTF-3? Just wonderin' out loud...BTW, I own a VTF-3MK2, and it quite handily, and quite properly given the disparity in their respective price points, buries my four-and-a-half year old EP-175. 'nuff said. Cheers!
DS.
Could possably be but I doubt it.The first one I bought was$499.00, right there he gave up $200.00 profit already. What do you suppose the profit margin would be?
That only means that he did not receive the extra $200 in sales revenue.
It does not necessarily translate into exactly $200 in profit.
Let me try to understand.I gave $200.00 off retail if I would have gave full retail they(Hsu) would not have made $200.00 more in profit from the sale?
Here's another plug for SVS. 20-39PCi is a great unit AND quite the entertainment piece.
I'll plug SVS too although I have HSU.I have never heard their subs but I'm sure they would be a great buy.
In your post, you mentioned that you entertained 2 models, and chose the least expensive based on advice. Simply stating that one was $200 more expensive does not mean that the company makes a clear profit of that $200. The more expensive model may not have a great a profit margin as the lesser model.
This could turn into a thread about economics if we are not careful.
I took an economics course in college. I didn't understand one thing, which is probably why I'm broke today. No. Actually, I'm broke today because I got into the home theater hobby. THAT'S WHY I'M BROKE!
but at least you know why you are broke...and have a cool system to enjoy!!!
If you were to re-read the post that I made I did not claim that the Vtf-3 was $200.00 more expensive but that I got $200.00 off retail of a VTF-2.However the most important thing is that I am happy with my purchase
I apologize for misreading your post, but it was not very clear what had transpired.
No need.Heck I had to go back and re-read them for myself.Thought I screwed up the numbers. If I wasn't clear in my post then I must say I'm sorry to you.
Have a good one.
