HOLY CRAP!!! what a deal.. that is an insane price for a great receiver. after owning the 701 for a few months now, i am completely satisfied with the ONKYO brand name.

the 501 has less wattage and is not quite as versatile with inputs/outputs, but still an awesome entry receiver for someone in a small room or dorm. i almost wish i had a need for a second receiver just so i could take advantage of this great offer.

anyone out there that was looking to get the denon 1604/1804, or the HK AVR130/AVR230, or the yamaha RXV450/550, or even the sony ES and pioneer elite entry level receivers, might wanna give a look at this deal.. almost tooo good to pass up.

Too bad they won't ship to Canada

Would really like to get a good deal on a great receiver (referb, 2nd hand, etc)...

????

E-Cost ships to Canada. Have bought a few things from them. They will even provide you with the complete cost including duty, taxes, etc. Just have to click the canadian checkout link after putting item in your cart. You will know the total cost before you have to enter CC info. If it's too high then just don't purchase the item.

To test this, I went online and tried to purchase this model.

I was told that I had an item in my basket that was "restricted from shipment to Canada".......

I would suggest it may not have CSA approvals granted to the product.

Here's the apparent reason they no longer sell to Canadians:

From redflagdeals.com

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79420

"At Christmas I ordered and received an Onkyo Receiver and it had some minor problems. To Ecost’s benefit, they did offer me a full refund if I returned it within 30 days. I figured it would be easier and quicker to get it repaired by Onkyo Canada (as it was a refurb anyway and Ecsot takes weeks to deliver).

When I contacted Onkyo Canada they were livid and said Ecost shouldn’t have sold the unit to me, as I live in Canada. I then contacted Onkyo US and they said they wouldn’t honour the warranty – because, you guessed it, I lived in Canada. Well, I figured somebody should honour the advertised 1 year warranty. So I complained loudly to Ecost.com and Onkyo USA (who was ultimately selling the units). My intention was to make sure Canadians had a real warranty (after 30 days). After a long battle, both a manager from Onkyo USA and one from Ecost phoned me (I had to walk the Ecost manager through the online processes of ordering a unit from his own site – as he didn’t believe it was possible to order a unit to Canada). Unfortunately, in the end all they did was reassure me that Ecost would never sell an Onkyo product to a Canadain again. Not what I wanted. Sorry folks!"

I tried another product (Kenwood receiver), and it would allow me to procede.

That was an interesting tale of poor customer service. I wonder what the root cause was.......

Well there you go. Actually on one occasion I tried to get a refurb Denon 3805 receiver thru them but they would not ship to Canada on that particualr item. I guess it depends on what you are trying to buy.
