Unbelievably good DTS soundtrack, but the movie was kinda lame, wasn't it? Anybody else disappointed with this Tarantino film?
Posted By: CosmicVoyager Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/03/04 05:10 PM
I thought the blood was over exaggerated. The Vol 2 is supposed to be much better.

Vol 2 is a lot better.
Posted By: rcvecc Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/03/04 05:38 PM
i dont mind watching a second part, but the way that movie ended pissed me off a little, getting half way through a story then being forced to go to the movies to finish it,or wait a year for the dvd.kind of a scumbbag move if you ask me...ron

I liked V1. Although, V2 does do alot more explaining and I like the old master who has foot long eye brows.
Posted By: BigWill Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/03/04 06:57 PM
I think Tarantino made the 2 volumes as one film and the studio forced him to cut it in half (or edit it down - which looks like what he should have done with Vol 1).

I don't think I'll have any problem waiting for Vol 2 to come out on DVD.

are you guys crazy, the absurd amount of blood is what made kill bill vol 1 kick...... i Love it... kill bill 2 was alright, but i wish there would have been as much blood, i mean, how cool is that, theres no way there could be that much blood.. don’t know, the enormous amount of blood is what I liked about kill bill vol 1…

Posted By: Craig_P Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/03/04 07:00 PM
I loved both versions of this movie. Honestly, Vol. 1 may be one of the best action movies I've seen in a long time. Almost everything about this movie is perfect. If you're not a fan of the grindhouse cinema that this movie is a tribute to, I can understand not liking it, but I thought both parts were amazing.
And as for splitting the movie in two, that wasn't Quentin's first choice. While making the movie he basically kept coming up with more scenes, then filming them. In the end, he was left with what he though was a solid 4 hour movie. The Weinsteins at Mirimax said there was no way the movie watching public would pay to see a 4 hour movie of this type, and refused to release it without Quentin cutting it down to 2 or so hours. Quentin refused, and they eventually settled on splitting the movie into two parts. hence the two parts.
I'm looking forward to seeing the whole version in theatres as it makes its small realease, art-house tour.

I just watched Vol. 1. It's not his best work, but it was solid. What I liked the best, and have always enjoyed, are the little quirky things like the 'pussy wagon', how he disects the scenesm, and the bit of anime he used to mix it up. That would be interesting to see the two all in one sitting...

I think both are great. The blood is pure cartoon - there is so much of it you can't take it seriously. Loved the sound track on V1. Haven't picked up the DVD of part 2, yet.
Posted By: BigWill Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/03/04 10:14 PM
Kill Bill certainly can't be compared favorably to Pulp Fiction, but I guess it wasn't your avg ho-hum Hollywood action flick either.
Posted By: CosmicVoyager Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/03/04 11:16 PM
Is Vol 2 released on DVD?
Posted By: bray Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/04/04 03:00 AM
Vol1 was my favorite movie this year. LOVED IT.
It seems like its one of those love it or hate, no in between deals.

VOL 1 is a total action movie. I also loved it. The blood didn't bother me, it was just a little over done( I had my wisdom teeth pulled the day I watched it ). The DTS rocked!

Posted By: Bilbo_Baggins Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/05/04 01:39 PM
I didn't get it. No disrespect to the fans of this movie, but the effects were just kind of stupid. I guess I’m not a big fan of the whole Crouching Tiger thing where the characters fly around. I was disappointed, loved Pulp fiction. Anyone know if the upgraded DTS version is worth it?

I believe it's one of those movies like Bray said. One of my favorites is Jackie Brown. There's a special edition that actually shows the video "chicks with guns".
It’s a must have.

Posted By: Daphoid Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/05/04 02:11 PM
Apparently it's being released as a complete film sometime after v2 comes out...

Also, Tarentino's "Four Rooms" is hilarity, note to me: buy on DVD

Tarantino only directed one of the rooms in "Four Rooms"...take a guess which! But yes, it is an excellent movie, very funny.
Posted By: mobomofo Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/05/04 07:45 PM
["No disrespect to the fans of this movie, but the effects were just kind of stupid"]

The effects were INTENTIONALLY that "bad." It's a comedy.

["I guess I’m not a big fan of the whole Crouching Tiger thing"]

Different genre altogether.
Posted By: Bilbo_Baggins Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/06/04 12:29 AM
yea, well he seceeded in making the effects bad, they were THAT bad!!! and yea, I kinda of picked up on the humor thing for about a minute -it was cute, then it got old real fast. like getting stuck next to a drunk at a party telling bad jokes.

Like I said, no deisrespect was meant, and so I softened my oppinion. The real fact of the matter is, I had to turn it off half way through I was so insulted. Insulted that it wasted my time to take it back to the video store.

As far as your genre point -- you're right. my mistake. This needs a genre all its own. Maybe, its a new genre that will attract all of the video zoids that play those hack-em-up videos on XBOXes.

It's not a film for everybody... very few films are.
Posted By: Craig_P Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/06/04 02:57 AM
Hey BB
Your tone is rediculous. Video Zoids? Just because you can't appreciate the movie, doesn't mean its some sort of base garbage.
The effects in the movie were great. The limbs getting lopped off are supposed to look kinda cheesy. The blood is supposed to be WAY over the top. Criticizing it for that simply makes no sense. Secondly, the action sequences are filmed brilliantly, with the utmost attention paid to choreography and cinematography. Its Quentin's first movie that actually shows some real technical direction, rather than just story telling. Not to mention that other then some wire removal, there were no CG effects, quite a blessing after seeing the monstrosity of (rather poor looking) video game effects the Matrix sequels had.

Its perfectly fine to not like the movie; it is definitely not for everyone, but that doesn't make it fodder for your so called XBOX zoids.

I must admit that the first time I saw this I did not like it. Then it came on PPV and I watched it again. I have seen it a few more times since then and although I don't think it's a great show, I always seem to watch it.

It does get a little to far out there for me at times but as my wife say's "It's watchable!"

Relax Craig, he is entitled to his opinion...the same way you are.
Posted By: Craig_P Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/06/04 10:51 PM
Of course he is, as is everyone.

But there's a difference between voicing an opinion, and insulting those with one different than your own.
Posted By: Bilbo_Baggins Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/06/04 11:33 PM
I didn't mean to insult anyone, just expressed my oppinion, thinking that was what posting boards normally do. I was certainly not trolling to insult an Xboxer.

I always thought that if I could develop a "tone checker" that would coincide with the "spell checker" of a word processor I would makes millions. I would help people not to accidently insult the overly-sensitive types.

Again, sorry for having a "rediculous tone," which, by the way -- is the very first time I heard that expression.

here, how about a smile face -- will that do as an apology

Posted By: ringmir Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/07/04 12:06 AM
Get out spell checker! The word is *ridiculous*. As in ridicule.

bilbo- to answer your question if the DTS of 'pulp' is worth it, i say maybe.. if you are a fan of the movie, then yes.. if you are not a big fan, then no.. the mix is pretty good though.. in the opening restaurant scene, just before the robbery, you can hear other conversations in the restaurant.. moms scolding kids, chefs calling out orders, old man sneezing, waitress asks, "more coffee'?. to me, it just added to the whole feel of the movie..

in case you didnt figure it out, i am a fan of the film. plus, the extra disc with footage is pretty cool.. and you get a menu from jack rabbit slims!!

It's nice to see other folks involved in a disagreement from time to time.

The movie wasn't terrible, I guess, but it was disappointing compared to Pulp Fiction. It was kinda like a gory video game, too. All that martial arts action just gets old.
Posted By: Bilbo_Baggins Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/07/04 03:29 AM
good catch on the use of ridiculous... always thought of it in its ludicrous meaning...thanks always to dictionary.com, great site.
Posted By: Bilbo_Baggins Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/07/04 03:34 AM
thanks for the response to my Pulp question. I'm a huge fan, so I guess I'm going to have to fork over for the upgrade... hate having 2 copies of stuff, but for Pulp- I'll probably make an exception. My favorite scene is at Tarintino's house, "the Bonnie situation" Any goodies added to that scene?
Posted By: bigjohn Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/07/04 01:20 PM
bilbo-

no, there are no 'added' scenes in the actual movie.. now, there are lots of extra and deleted scenes on the additional disc.. all come with tarantino and actors commentary. there is also an additional soundtrack, that has all the music from the movie. the xtra disc is well put together, with backstage/behind the scenes shots, and just lots of cool extras for the rabid fan.. if you are a fan of the movie, then i would say get the DTS set, its worth it.

and as for the 'bonnie situation', i could swear to god, if i tried hard enough, i could almost smell jimmy's great coffee!!

Now, pretty please-- with sugar on top-- clean the f8ckin' car ;D
Posted By: Bilbo_Baggins Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/07/04 03:35 PM
I think one of the reasons that scene is so funny (besides Jimmy springing the gourmet sh#t out) is the fact that we've all been in that kind of situation in which we are "the friend of a friend" and we have to silently witness (as John T. does) the arguing. It's almost like being at a friend house for dinner when the family gets into a fight. Of course, I could be reading way too much into this, and the obvious -- perhaps I've seen the movie about 10 times too many!)

Posted By: bigjohn Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/07/04 07:23 PM
i can feel what you are saying, but my view is a little different .. i think its funny due to the 'inconvience'(sp) of the situation. we have all had friends stop in at all hours of the night, to drink beer, or crash on the couch, or sneak in some girl that he is cheating with.. same goes for when you wanna spend a lazy day watching football, inevitably, the boys will show up, wanting to BBQ, and throw some washers, or go out on the lake.. or when you are with your girl, and need some 'alone' time, never fails, someone will show up just wanting to hang out, or go to the bar..

well, i find it funny, cause i would NEVER expect for one of my friends to just show up at 7:45 in the morning with a dead body, with its head blown off.. i think thats where i would have to draw the line on our friendship.

and i buy the good stuff also..

agreed, funniest line in the movie.

The wolf takes the cake though. Harvey K. is UFB -- perfect casting. couldn't imagine anyone else doing better in that role.
Posted By: CosmicVoyager Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/08/04 02:58 AM
Come on, what about "SAY WHAT AGAIN MOTHERF*CKER" . The scene before the head gets blown off.
I can't watch Star Wars without laughing because of that scene.
Posted By: bigjohn Re: Kill Bill Vol 1 - 07/08/04 01:29 PM
agreed, great line.. the movie is full of them

my fav is when travolta takes the girl to the dealers house when she is OD'n. he doesnt want to give her the shot, and the dealer says, "your givin her the shot!! the day i bring an OD'n bit*h to your house, i'll give her the shot".. cracks me up ever time..

the whole "i aint diggin on swine" speech in the restaurant is great too.. "sewer rat might taste like pumpkin pie, but i'll never know, cause i'll never eat the nasty moth*rf**ker to find out"..
