This is sort of a follow up to my previous post. I'm using a Harmon/Kardon AV120 receiver with the M1's. I was told to leave the volume for the main channels at zero (they can be adjusted from -10 to +10). If I do that, I have the turn the amp up to 50% to get any sort of decent sound levels (I listen to my TV in bed louder than this is). Am I correct in assuming that the amp is underpowered? If so, what do you think of the Marantz SR4200 or the Yamaha RX-520? Same sound quality? I know they're rated higher in watts, but if they really are, I don't know, I'm hoping someone could tell me if either one of those is more suitable. Or, should I just crank up all the volumes for all the channels to +10 and be happy with that? This amp definately doesn't have the "punch" or "presence" that I thought it should have had.

there are two things that come to mind. Firstly, if you can use your HK amp with other speakers, give it a try to see if it's the amp or something else causing the low volumes. Secondly, make sure the speaker wires are well connected. A loose connection will cause signal loss.

what's the specs on your HK amp?
