The Pioneer VSX-D914K

This next-level AV receiver provides customized audio performance for your home. With the use of an included setup microphone, Auto-MCACC (Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System) evaluates the acoustic characteristics of your media room and automatically calibrates your speakers and components accordingly. It works in any room, regardless of shape or size, and the result is professional-level sonic performance.

The powerful VSX-D914K sends a blistering 110 watts to six channels (even a dual surround back speaker) and features advanced surround processing, with DTS-ES Discrete, DTS 96/24, Dolby Digital EX, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoding.

Its sophisticated, heavy-duty construction utilizes one compact circuit board for all digital signal processing for exceptional purity, plus a double-precision Motorola 48-bit DSP engine that’s used in top theaters worldwide. The VSX-D914K is ready for DVD-Audio and SACD next-gen audio, and provides the convenience of Advanced Quick Setup, a full complement.

The VSX-D914K is currently available in black finish at a suggested retail price of $399.

I have vsx-d912k, which is the same except for it has better remote and and doesn't have 192dac.
Not a bad avr for home theater, but for music it sucks BIG TIME - BRIGHT for M60s and cooling fan is on almost all the time ( at least from -35 volume )
Other than that - it has a lot for the money, but - what the use if I cannot listen to the music. So 912 ended up in HT mostly living room, and Pioneer Elite 45TX fills my "concert hall"

One of the main differences in the past between Elite and non-Elite models was that MCACC did not do EQing on the non-Elites, just level matching. Is that still the case?

Curtis
As fas as 912 ( non elite ) MCACC does not do EQing

The marketing speak does seem to imply the new 914 does do auto EQing.

Sorry to contradict to the honest-dumb-don'tcare-don'tknow'and-don'twant to know statement of PE marketing cannot-do-anything-else folks,
BUT
accoring to vsx-d914K USER MANUAL which I downloaded AGAIN -
it doesn't do EQ MCACC
Beside, I might be wrong - but ask PE "marketing" to pay you $1 ( yes - one ) if 914 doesn't do EQ - and mistery will be solved.

What??

I just wanted to know if EQing was a new feature on the 914 as opposed to the 912.

Curtis, David(Bugzy)is correct, although his reply was a bit tangled-up. Despite what I agree are implications in the Pioneer wording that it does auto-eq, the 914 doesn't. The new 1014 which should be out in 2-3 weeks does really have it, and is about $700 list. Should be a pretty good buy at $450 or so street.

Thanks John....that sounds like a great deal for that kind of functionality.

Sorry for been stubborn, but, knowing that marketing is the trade where deceptive practices rewarded AND reading manual for 914 ( and I do have what to compare with - PE 45TX - which has EQ ) I still truly believe that EQ on 914 is a catch 22 ( just like peak search on my Sony CD player - single disk )

Bottom line - do your DD, but - there is NO EQ on 914

Yeah, sorry for a LOT "tangled-up" - I just got off the phone with Samsung support/marketing who tried to convince me for 20 minutes that software bug in my a610 cell was just my imagination. Imagine that - they have "RICHARDS" in India! Damn outsourcing

Would anyone recommend the 912 over 914? I saw on open box 912 at CircuitCity for $259, but no included microphone (Pioneer sells it direct for $33 online). I can get a new 914 online for about $300. The only difference I can see from the specs is the DAC at 96KHz vs. 192KHz on the 914. Or should I wait for 1014?

thanks

Jericho, welcome. In my view, if it fits your budget, you should wait for the new 1014, as mentioned in my reply to Curtis.
