Hi,
I have vp-100 as a center. I plan to get vp-150 for center channel and move vp-100 to the rear channel. Is it possible in term of sound and placement? I have room 12x14 and listening position is 2 feet from the back wall. Please help.

I have a buddy that put his center channel in the rear in a 6.1 surround set-up. I think that it sounds great, and adds plenty of envelopment. We placed it vertically behind the main seating position.

While some may warn about a phantom signal comign from teh rear and sounding like it is coming from the front, I say, what the hell, give it a try.

Consider this: You are getting the 150? Deal's done? Then there is no harm in trying the 100 out as a rear for at least a little bit. If you find that it please you, then Bob's your uncle, and we'll all go about our hapy lives. If it doesn't make you happy, there are other alternatives (new 5.1 system in another room, selling it on eBay, yada, yada...). I would suggest that you give it a try and see what you think of it. There's no harm in trying.

Putting a VP-100 at the rear should work fine. You may have to play around with placement, but the tonal balance of the VP100 is very close to the VP150 and to the QS8s/QS4s.

In some of the listening tests we've done at Axiom, we compared the effects of using a pair of direct-radiating VP100s at each side (as the main surrounds) vs. a pair of QS8s. If you were sitting roughly on axis, the VP100s worked very well in a surround role. Sitting off-axis and at other listening locations in the room, the QS8s were quite superior.

what about using 1 m80/m60 as a center and a vp150 as a rear center?... ive been thinking about doing this for a while... was kind of leaning towards the 80.... any ideas?

You could certainly do that if you have the space. In many respects that is the ideal--to have three identical front speakers, and it's what THX originally proposed. But most people don't have the room and are willing to compromise (it's not a huge compromise in my judgment) on the center channel for the sake of setup convenience. I'm assuming you'd have a pair of M60s or M80s as the main left and right fronts as well.

The VP150 at the rear center would integrate nicely with that kind of setup.
