Just got the Audioholics newsletter which had this review of an Outlaw and SVS sub. The review is not as thorough as those posted by craigsub, but it made me feel good about my own decision. Not that I needed much in the way of post-purchase validation, but it certainly doesn't hurt!

I own the Outlaw sub myself but after reading the comments on the SVS I would love to at least experience that bad boy. Oh well, funds were limited so I went for the Outlaw and have been very happy with it.

Eric, That was a pretty good review, and thanks for the compliment. Remember, Our PB2+/VTF-3 review was in winter... We had ALL sorts of time to be thorough...

The Outlaw did about what you would expect it to do.. very powerful and an excellent value in a ported subwoofer. Take TWO Outlaws, one cabinet, and a 900 watt amp (think Outlaw LFM-2) ... and it and the SVS would be a dead heat...

Craig - somewhere on Outlaw's site (can't seem to find it right now) they make a claim that 2 LFM-1's provide a performance advantage by creating a larger sweet spot. Of course, that could just be marketing speak in order to sell more subs, but they do offer a great deal on 2 LFM-1's for $999.

Have you ever tested or just played around with a 2 sub configuration? Curious as to whether there is any truth to their claim, or if there would be any other reasons to use or avoid using 2 subs together. thanks!

As for Outlaw... Most companies take the approach of co-locating a pair of subs, as that gives a 6 dB increase in output, where using the subs in different locations will "only" yield a 3 dB increase. Putting the subs in 2 different locations CAN yield a smoother room response, though it is difficult to actually achieve this better response, as you are now trying to get TWO sets of peaks and nulls to work WITH each other... rather than against each other. This is a conversation topic, and pretty involved for a forum... but smoothing the response is usually easier with a single sub or stacked pairs acting as a single sub... By the way, I did use the Hsu subs in both stacked and seperate positions, and preferred stacked... The Outlaws are a very nice price at $999 the pair, and would be (repeating myself) a great match for the PB2-ISD

I, too, would be interested to hear craig's expert opinion on the Dayton Titanic subs, particulaly the 10". I know that 2x6spds has one and likes it.

I'm going to be getting a sub in the next few months for my 99% music set-up (read: looking for tight, musical bass) and I've narrowed my choice down to either the HSU STF-2 or the Dayton Titanic 10". If you get the HSU at CompUSA or the Dayton kit on partsexpress, either can be had for $350. So it just comes down to which is the better sub, and I have no way of determining that first-hand so I'm going to have to rely on opinions I trust.

I have not heard the Dayton sub... The Hsu is a great unit for the money, and also will have re-sale value, which helps when upgraditis sets in...:) Then Rocket is coming out with their $400 sub, which will include the SOS auto EQ built in, and the same driver as the UFW-10, with a lesser finish... so, depending on your timeline, there are lots of choices...

I don't know if you would be interested in this or not, but I have an extra Titanic MKIII 12" sub cabinet. The net volume sealed is 1.6cf^3. It will only hold the Titanic 12"(295-404) and the 500w plate amp(300-806) as it has t-nuts for the driver and amp. I would let you HAVE it for the cost of shipping. That would leave you the expense of the driver,160.00 and amp,298.00+s/h. The cab is done in a black pebble finish with the baffle in a gloss black. Comes with spiked feet and some minimal bracing. Research the sub and let me know.

There is a gent on the AV123 site whose moniker is "Drunkonjack", I used that bottle in his honor... he is one of the funniest guys on any forum. Plus, Jack and Coke is a great after golf drink.

The Rocket sub is small, but has some real punch... it suprised the heck out of me when it stood up to the big guys... and it is portless, so I guess Penis Envy will have to do...
