We had DirecTV a few years ago and when we left San Bernardino (YEAHHH) for N CAL, we changed to Dish.

We got a 5.1 reciver with a HD built in.

We wanted to add rooms and to make a long story short almost went to the TIVO guys but stayed with Dish.

so what?

well, Dish now is going TIVO like.

this means you have to get the reciever but paya RECORDING fee (like TIVO).

This to me is the equiuvilant to buying a VCR and paying walmart a $1 everytime you want to record a show. I DO NOT LIKE IT,

Finally we were able to get DISH to scrounge up just a PLAIN HD reciever..it records w/o the subsctiptip "record fee"

yeah, yeah, we still pay for programming but the notion of the recording fee just bugs me.

just a thought

Is it a per-instance fee or a monthly fee? I know that TiVo provides more than just recording on request (schedules, wishlists, etc.), but if it's a per-recording fee or even a monthly fee to just have the PVR, where you have to do manual or by-time recordings, screw that noise.

You could always just hack it!

Yeah, but I'd like to see TiVo stay around for awhile as a company. I just got the lifetime subscription, so I don't have to worry about that stuff any more! Since I got 2 years out of it, it's all free from here...
