I have M60's as the front and rear speakers in a home theater. They sit on carpet, not especially thick, just the kind the builder put in the house. The spikes that came with the speakers are too long for my carpet. They hit the hard floor underneath. Should I use them anyway, should I use the rubber things that are made for hard floors, or should I use nothing at all?

aj,

Alan, our resident Axiom-appointed expert, has said that using spikes, rubber feet, or nothing at all has zero effect on the sound. So it will sound the same regardless. The "footing" options are provided to ensurethe speaker's stability. With that in mind, it's totally OK that the spikes hit your subfloor. If it concerns you, you can just stick the speakers directly on the carpet.

Thanks. With the spikes as long as they are, the speakers seem a little less stable than if they had nothing at all. I've been using the rubber feet, and I'll just continue to do that.
