Is either the 635 or 7300 Harman Kardon enough to run the M80 at a good level? Please let me know.
S, either one should have more than enough power unless you listen at long distance in a huge room at extremely high levels. Note that the new 635 has the advantage of the room equalization developed by Dr. Toole's team which measures both nearfield and farfield response.
I have the HK 630 with the Epic 80 and it is more than enough. I have had a few problems with the automatic circuitry protection kicking in when it was hot in my house (had warm weather here the last 3 weeks). I bought an external cooling fan from radio shack and haven't had any problems since.
Doesnt the 630 already come with a fan? Are the fans loud when the music isnt turned up all the way?
You’ll suffer permanent hearing loss before the 7300 gives out. My 7200 can drive them at ridiculously loud sound levels. I can peg my sound meter 20 feet away before the HK’s volume is half way up.
Hi S !
I do not know about HK 630-but I can tell you that unless your room is very large (ask Axiom C.S.!)you can not go past 0 on HK7300.My room is 24X14 and I never went past -5.The M80 play extremely loud at this level, it is more than a normal(sorry!)human being can hear without at least a partial hearing loss-in my opinion. And I did not even calibrate the system yet(I still do not know how to do it!).
Overall, the combination HK7300-M80-VP150-QS8 is fantastic!
Enjoy!

Hi pizoni, earlier you had posted that you would try your old reciever the H/K 130 with your new speakers (at the time M60) you changed your order to the M80's though (lucky guy) before hooking up the new 7300 killer amp.
I was just wondering if you ever tried the 130 and m80 together before hooking up your new receiver. As I posted before, I currently have a H/K 110 and plan on getting the M60s this year (thanks to Axiom Gift Certificates at Xmas) and really do not want to replace my amp for a couple years.
Thanks
the hk 230 plays the m60 just great if that helps anything.
i just ordered an hk avr 630 myself just to have a bit more juice on tap but the avr 230 does work fine.
Hi Hay!
Sorry, I did not have the 130, but 120 instead(50W stereo,45W X5).Initially I ordered M60, then I've changed my mind and ordered M80.At that time I was finishing my basement(done now) and the receiver and the Axiom speakers arrived before I was ready. I could not set up my system, the room was a mess!I gave my 120 to my daughter. It can not drive the M80(4 Ohm speakers). The combination HK7300-M80-VP150-QS8- David(DBox)302 sub(250 W)and my Sony 53"HDTV is amazing. The M80 can play extremely loud(I canot go past -10-5!) but they are fantastic speakers. The dialog from VP150 is very powerful, clear and well defined, no matter where you sit.The QS8 deliver an excellent surround...Listening to Audio DVD in 5.1 is unbelievable!( I also love Chris Rea!)I still have to configure the system and to calibrate the speakers(Sound Vision DVD and analog Radio Shack meter).
I still need some more time to understand the HK manual , it is very complex and difficult(for me), despite the fact that I was used to the previous receiver.
Enjoy yiur music!
