My SVS should arrive tommorow or Monday. I have never owned a sub before so I have no idea now much of that bass will make it out of my house and piss off one of the neighbors.

Can a sub like the PB12-ISD put out enough bass to do that kind of thing, or is that usually something reserved for the giant-killer subs (SVS B4, etc.)

I have played movies and music very loud and walked around the house to assess the noise and all was well. However, will bass frequencies be worse?
You might not want to play it loud after 10:00 pm.
Have fun with your new toy. It will bring a new level of enjoyment to your movies and music.
Are you in an apartment or in your own house? That's a HUGE difference.

If you've got your own home you should be fine unless you play your stuff at ungodly volumes. If you share ANY walls at all - be careful. It won't take much to drive your neighbors nutty.

I crank it up now and then to 0db on my Denon 3805... and I can hear it outside, somewhat, from about 6 feet away. I think it makes a huge difference if you're in the basement...the bricks vibrate if you feel them

Now if your HT is on the main floor, this might make a HUGE difference.

No, I am in a house. I am not worried about the neighbors behind me and across the street. I am more worried about the homes beside me.

Guess I will find out.

You'll likely be fine. Unless you're doing something obviously rude. Just use common sense.

Play a movie at a fairly loud volume...a volume you're likely to watch at, select a bass heavy scene and go outside. At least that way you'll know what it sounds like to the neighbors.

fyi...video games drove my neighbor far more nutty than music or movies.

You may need to be careful on nice summer nights when neighbors may have their windows open... That is my concern too...
I live on an acreage with 2.5 acres, my neighbors aren't close enough for me to worry about it....so crank it up and rock on.....

Yeah my neighbors have complained, once, and they havent since. And I often come home from the bars at 2am and play ridiculously loud music.

It is funny because my neighbors next door (honestly only 7 feet between the walls) have never complained, but a lady almost a block down the street once came by.

I say wait until the police are called.
Before I moved almost a year ago my neighbors were always calling the cops on me. I had a big pair of Cerwin Vega's that were very capable of waking up the neighbors in their sleep. I used to to come home around 2:30 AM and crank it as loud as they would go, distortion and all, and sometimes pass out(once only). The music didnt bother them as much as the occasional gunfire though. I have since almost quit drinking and have had zero conflict with the law, coincidence?
Maybe. Naa, gimme another Crown and Coke please.

In my new neighborhood everyone is too polite to say anything so far, they are all new neighbors. But I try to be more considerate now than I used to be. I still have the Vega's though, although the tweeters are blown out in them, again. They are the cheap LS 15's. This is the third time they have blown out. They are still under warranty, they came with a 5 year warranty plus a couple more from BestBuy. But they have some kind of problem that BestBuy is not fixing. I want to send them to a speaker shop and maybe get the wiring replaced in them and some upgraded mids and highs. OR I was thinking about converting them into subs only, not sure exactly what I would have to do but I am sure it wouldnt be too hard. I had a Yamaha equalizer hooked up to them and they sounded half decent anyway. You could get rid of most of the screaming mids that the cabinet/speakers seemed to produce. Funny thing is the fuse never burned out in them, just popped the speakers every time. Although this always happened at loud volumes it didnt seem like the volume was loud enough to be damaging the speakers.

Two 15" subs with about 500 Wattt amp and the SVS PB/2 Plus, and I am sure a lot of neighbors will be complaining.

ah, VEGA'S!!

i have the vega LW-12 sub right now.. it is respectable.. i mean, it has plenty of volume, but can be boomy.. and i think it is only rated to 30HZ, so it isnt reaching the super LFE's, but its close. i am OK with it, but still dream of the day for my SVS...(smacking lips).

but, you tell of crazy loud vega stories, i have to include.. the speakers that my axioms replaced, are the vega tower MX400's that i bought brand new in 1993. they have dual tweeters, dual horns, and 15inch woofers. at the time, those were the LOUDEST speakers i had ever heard. i got them while i was in the army, living in the barracks at ft bragg. all the black guys in the barracks LOVED my vegas, cause they were all into the bass. so, one night, one of the dudes had a 4 ohm yamaha amp(all i had was a crappy kenwood), and we hooked the vega's to it, and just CRANKED it.. i mean it was loud, you couldnt even walk into the room that the speakers were in. my room was on the first floor, so we went up to the 3rd floor, and the bass was literally still causing ripples in a beer glass that we sat on the floor. and this is a concrete, cinder block barracks.. i kid you not, i thought it was the coolest thing in the world. of course, i was young, and my sole desire was to make my ears bleed, so they were exactly what i wanted.... so i thought.. now, older and wiser, my axioms are the highlight of my house tour, and the vegas are collecting dust, waiting for me to finish our game room, so they can be plugged in again.

its kinda sad how we just kick that old stuff to the curb..
