Rented this last night, and WOW what a great soundtrack (dts).
Also the photography was fantastic.
My only complaint would be that it is subtitled, with a lot of talking.
Wished I could have gotten DTS with subtitles off and spoken word in english.
Overall very worth a rent.

Very true. Sadly, I thought the video transfer was terrible for such a visually stunning fim, particularly during high motion sequences. Miramax has really been shooting blanks on their DVD mastering of late.

Sounds like it might be worth check into sometime. Have you ever heard of Shaolin Soccer? It had me laughing and their lips are not in sync with the words all the time.

I also thought "The One" by Jet Li is pretty awesome..

Here are must see asian films:

Same Director as Hero [chinese]
House of Flying Dagger

Volcano High [Korean]

My Sassy Girl [Chinese]

White Dragon [Chinese]

Red Shadow [Japanese]

- the first 30 mins is only good

All have english subtitles. It is cheapest if you head over to your local china town and find those shops that sell 5 asia market DVDs for $20. I personally believe something is lost in dubbed movies. Subtitles do a great job. Sometimes English dubbed movie really botch it up. For instance Shoalin Soccer killed a lot of jokes in the English version. Some translation was too corny. Subtitles got all the jokes in but for one or two.

All I can say is Hero was great. I especially loved that fact that Jet got nekkid in it.

y'all gotta check out House of Flying Daggers then. i just saw it in the theater friday night and it was amazingly good, especially the Echo Game. the only thing is i think the subtitles sound a little too "modern" with phrases like "how do i know you're for real?" (my wife got a pretty good kick out of them) i dunno, did anyone else notice this?

House of Flying Daggers was great. I agree about the subtitles, though, and hope they're retranslated for the DVD.
