I am wondering which speakers would be better for me, the M22ti or the M40ti. I have a very small room (10x15) and I will have a good subwoofer. Will the smaller M22ti speakers work better for my situation? (Like, does the M40ti tower speaker sacrifice some detail when compared to the M22ti in exchange for more bass response?)

Thanks

IMO: yes

For that size room I think the M22s are perfect.

For your room I would go with M22s if you have a good sub. The M40's big strength is that they seem to be great all-round speakers and can handle full-range music without a sub. M22s don't have the same bass extension but will be smoother and more clear in the midrange. Both differences are fairly small but if you have a good sub I would go with m22.

If you look at the soundstage reviews you will get a pretty good comparison. Relative to the M3, the M22 is felt to sound a bit better at a higher price, while the M40 has much smoother bass but is a bit less clear in the midrange than the M40.

If you were looking for music speakers and weren't into subs, the M40s are really hard to beat (I would have bought some but came into a bit of extra $$ and got M60s instead) but if you have a good sub I would lean towards M22s.

Heck, splurge and get the 60's....

Actually, you'll be happy with either of those choices when accompanied with a good sub.

Reading you first post, you seem to have two questions burried in there. "Yes" and "Yes"

You could split the difference though, and for a few more bucks get the M50s, which have nearly the accuracy of the M22 with nearly the bass responce of the M40. (although some folks have said the M50 has better bass than the M40; I don't know, what the graphs show is that the bass of the M40 is more linear down low)

At any rate, the M22 with a good sub in your sized room would be hard to beat.

Now if you really want floorstanders, the M60s on the other hand...

it depends on your tastes. Do you like a laid back sound or a very accurate, transparent sound?

if you want transparent, get M22's with a sub.
Mellow sound? get M3's or M40's or M50's and a sub. M60's or M80's would likely not sound great in that size. I have tried my M80's in smaller rooms and they sound suffocated.

depends on your budget as well, but don't forget, stands for the M22's will likely run you another $100 CAD.

I'll repeat this again, because it surprised me. Dennis' M80s sounded very very similar to my M50s at low to moderate volumes. Laid back and accurate transparent are not accurate contrasts of the differences in the speaker lines.

Yes, what prompted me to ask this question in the first place is that the M22ti's with the stands actually cost more than the M40ti's. However, your collective advice confirmed my instinct that told me the M22ti's would be better.

Thanks a lot!

I have M60 in the room of 12x14. It sounds great at moderate volume. IMO, bass extension of M60 is good as i listen to only Jazz, classical music, pop. Note that room acoustic will affect the sound too. I'm working on room acoustic now

The M40 would be more comparable to the M3. The M22 and a good sub would be great combination...almost "Perfection"

(I crack myself up sometimes...)

Ah, yes. The explanation behind my name is that my real name (Kamal) means "perfection" in Arabic.

So obviously, I'd settle for nothing less!

If you will be using for Home Theater and low volume music, the M22 would be great. At low to moderate volumes in a small room, to my ears it is "clearer" than the M60.

If you listen to music at medium to high volumes, the M60 sings VERY well
