I'm trying to determine whether a Harmony 676 will fit my needs. The Logitech web site is surprisingly high on fluff, low on info. I took their little test drive thing, and it was most unsatisfactory--just activities setup? How much other customization can you do on the thing? For example (the biggest draw for my wife) I'd like to be able to press Mute on the remote, which will mute BOTH the TV and the receiver. The TV mute is because that turns on closed captioning. Of course, a button that just turns on closed captioning in TiVo and DVD mode would work just as well. Does anyone have a PDF manual for the thing or anything like that?

So there is more to setting it up properly than just setting the activities, right?

yes the test drive does not include the other customization that is available (i think so it does not scare the customer away). also if you have any trouble with customizing just call the 1800# and tell them what you need they will program it for you put it in your online profile and when you update your remote from the web it will be there. as far as the particluar function you are trying to acheive call them first there is hardly any wait time if any at all. btw i have the 676 and i love it.also check here for more inf i purchased from bluedo.com (just make sure you ceck the return policy in case you dont like)

Yes, there is more you can do. You can customize your hard/soft buttons to function as you like. The only caveat is that the buttons can only be assigned one IR command, you can't really assign it a "macro". The activities would have to be used to create macros. The strength of the 768 was that you could use XML to do this type of customization. Unfortunately, it wasn't well documented.

One solution is to keep the mute button as is, it'll mute relative to the activity that is current. Then, in the custom soft button, add another mute button. It'll require 2 button presses, but it'll work.
