1st post. Have axiom speaker and am realy happy with them, it's the new (7 months old) Denon 3805 that has me pissed.
Great unit when it works. Super remote, when it works. I've been reconnection, reprogramiming, and resetting for the last several month.
Problem is that when i change sources there is no ouput. if I turn the thing off-back on it works if i change the soucre (vcr to dvd) there is no output again. Sometime if I go backto the original source it will work most time it dosen't

the remote has been hit or miss. Any comment or help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Doctor, welcome. My first thought would be to try to determine if the problem is in the remote(more likely)or the receiver itelf. Have you tried changing sources using the controls on the receiver rather than using the remote? Does the same problem occur?

i've noticed something similar on my 3805 if i'm switching from SACD to regular CD. if i take out a SACD and the reciever is in the EXT mode and then i put in a redbook CD it won't put out any sound. i have to hit the I. Mode (or whatever it's labelled as) button on the remote and then it switches over and plays. i don't know if that's whats going on with your situation, but i suppose it can't hurt to try.

Hey Guys! I have a Denon 2805 and it does all the things you have mentioned. Yes you have to hit the mode button to change formats, but still you can have the same problem...the revceiver cannot seem to lock in, hence no audio. At one point I had to unplug my Denon 1910 dvd player. After plugging it back in and resetting all functions it seemed to work fine for a while but its back to its old tricks. Notice I said dvd player. Seems to me my problems started after I switched to a audio co-axial interconnect. I have been meaning to change back to analog to see if my suspicions are correct. Hope this helps in ferreting out the problem.

Also anyone have problems assigning surround modes for specific cd or dvd recordings? Seems that this appeared at the same time as the above. Same remedy?

Try going into the Set Up menu and making sure that you have the mode set to "Auto".

Bingo! That was my first thought too.

"Auto" enabled. Posted similar to this in "tech advice" no-one
was able to help. Then this thread started......imagine!

The forum works in mysterious ways sometimes.

In reply to:

"Auto" enabled.

Was this the solution?

No solution as of yet.

It doesn't seem likely that the 3805 is the culprit. I'd bet that it is either a receiver setting issue or a remote button selection issue.

The next time it happens, hit the "display" button (on the remote) and check what comes up on the tv screen or front panel and you will see what the receiver sees as its bio for that particular input. It should tell you if it is in "auto", "analog", "ext.in"...etc.

You guys have probably already checked this but are all of the digital inputs (in the receiver menu) correctly assigned and have you tried using a different type (coax/optical) of input for said component? I had to ask...

Could the receiver somehow be seeing "ext. in"? If the "ext. in" has been engaged with the remote, the receiver will stay in "ext.in"mode (no matter which source you switch to) until it is manually disengaged.....I think.

Rarely but sometimes, after I've used the "skip ahead" button (in rapid fire) on my sat. receiver, it (3805) drops the signal but I can get it back instantly by selecting the DBS source input again.

I'm now very curious as to what the problem could be. I know it is possible but I've never read of a Denon receiver needing a repair for this kind of problem, much less two of them.

You could also try asking the pros and forum members over at Audioholics. I bet you could get some good advice there as well.

Good luck! And keep us Denon owners posted.

I 've reset the reciever a couple of times, my remote isn't at its best. the unit is still under warrenty,so it is all going to the repair shop. I will try one more time to reprogram the thing. i don't recall any display button on the remote, but like i said it isn't working well. I will check again
thanks

The remote is pretty cool looking but I got tired of it real fast and got a HTM MX-700.

Well I played around with it tonight. When it is first turned on it work great but after a half hour or so thing start to happen. I will turn the function button form vcr-1 to dvd and the on screen display reads----signal: unknown. If I push the source button two or tree time I get audio output and display reads: signal: dolby digital.
Could this be an overheating problem? It doesn't feel that hot, yes it is warm, but not burning (and I do run two of the tree zones.
Thanks again

Chris,
Are you sure that your receiver is set to automatically detect what type of input signal (digital, analog, etc..) you have set for each component?
Posted By: drchris Re: need help with new Denon 3805 - 07/19/05 10:29 PM
yes it is set to auto. I am going to wait a few day and see what Denon support has to say before it goes in for repairs. The remote is getting exchanged.
