Hello all,

First, here is my setup:
Denon 2805
M22 fronts, VP100 center, QS8 side surrounds, and M2 rears.
HSU Research STF-2 subwoofer

Now the problem:
1 week ago I was watching "Saving Private Ryan" and was getting to a part of the movie with lots of cannon and machine gun fire when the Denon 2805 shut off and the main power button started blinking red. After 1 minute, I was able to turn the Denon back on and watched the rest of the movie without complications.
Last night I was watching "Crouching Tiger..." and again was in the middle of the first big fight with loud drums when the Denon shut off and started blinking red. And again, was functional after about a minute for the rest of the film.
Between the two movies, I watched TV, listened to SACDs, and played Xbox games on this system every night without problems. Volume was at maximum -36.0 dB., no more than when the system worked properly. Can anyone offer some insight to this problem? Thanks in advance!

Check ALL your speaker wire connections. One stray strand could do what you are talking about.
How much room around the 2805 do you have?
If you have something sitting on the top of it, the 2805 can overheat.

Ditto what bray said. It could be thermal shut down if your receiver is getting too hot especially if you are pushing it to the max. Do you have air circulation around the receiver?

Have not had this problem with my 2805. Like the others check all speaker wires to make sure there is no polarity issues or wire strands touching other terminals, this will shut down the Denon's. Also, do you have at least 3-4" of breathing room around the Denon for top and sides?

I use all banana plugs so no strands anywhere, but I will check nonetheless...
There are definitely temperature concerns though... The home theater is a separate enclosed room but with air conditioning. It does not get cold enough though and I need to check for clearance. I have at least 4" on the sides, but definitely not more than 1" or 2" maximum on the top. I purposely removed the back plate to the cabinet so air would circulate, but maybe I need to look for an open-air cabinet... Thanks again!

That right there to me would cause your receiver to go into protect mode.You need to get more space around it.

You really need more space all around it and you may want to investigate some kind of fan for cooling the receiver. I myself use a dc computer case fan hooked up with a variable voltage ac adapter though the receivers switched ac outlet. Seems to work pretty well for me.

Thanks guys for the help! I will be moving my receiver down to the bottom of my cabinet, which will not increase the space on the sides, but will increase the top clearance to about 10 - 12 inches. I will also try installing maybe a computer power supply in the cabinet, then hook up and place on top of the receiver a couple of computer processor cooler fans... If you guys see a problem with that solution please let me know... Thanks!

I don't know if it's safe to run that light a load on a power supply. I could be wrong here. Plus, power supplies put out their own heat--plenty of it, too.
