Over the last few months you guys have really helped me out with everything involved in buying and setting up a HT. I have the Epic 50 / 350 system and I couldnt be happier with it. You guys have been super helpful with everything. Brent at axiom has also helped me out a great deal. Great guy. Thanks again everyone.

Pics will be up in about 20 minutes.

System Includes:

Samsung 61' DLP 1080p HDTV
Samsung DVD-HD850
Explorer 8300HD DVR
Denon AVR-885S
Axiom M50T Towers, QS4 surrounds, VP100 Center, and EP350 SW.

wow your room is clean. My living room is a mess!

Nice looking gear too! You must be a happy camper.

QS4 on wall.

great setup, that Cordmate sure does wonders to hide those wires!

That's a really nice setup you have there.Congrats.
where would i buy the cordmate? thanks
LOL. You already have it under your QS4s.
The system looks great. Nice and clean. Your TV even makes the M50s look small, must be a joy to watch !!
Wow, everything looks good, NEW2AXIOM, except for one thing--you have an empty shelf on your AV rack! That means you must buy another piece of gear. No question about it.
That thing I have under the QS4's wouldnt hold all those wires behind the rack. There is wires back there the same size as the cordmate. :P
Ya, that one empty shelf on the AV rack is bothering me. I was thinking of putting the Xbox 360 up there when it comes out. Not a huge Video Game guy but I think it would be cool to play on my new system.

Any other suggestions on what I could put there on that empty shelf?
No, I think the XBOX 360 is a good idea. Trying to figure out how I can afford one myself. . .
Same here...
Hehe, toys just get more expensive as you get older.
That's a great system in a beautiful environment NEW2AXIOM...have fun!
Hi new2axiom

Great looking set up! The only change I would make would be to aim the center channel up ... maybe a few door stop wedges would do the trick.
The center speaker is pointed up. You just have to turn the axiom centers upside down and it points up.
Yup...great lookin' system at that!

(Always glad to see another rig using M50s!!)

All the comments of having an empty shelf is making me feel bad though....

I'd LIKE to have an empty shelf.....make that TWO!!....

....the shelves that my M50s are on

(chalk another one up to "WAF")

do the "ladies only" forums have a "HAF"
I wonder....anyway, great looking system indeed!!
Rich.
Im actually thinking about upgrading the M50's to the M60's and the VP 100 to the 150. Keeping in mind that I dont listen to much music on my system and its mainly for watching movies and such, do you guys thinks this upgrade is worth it? I dont want to upgrade the sub anymore because the 350 is already making my windows rattle and im in a townhouse! haha! Let me know what you guys think. thanks
I think you would be best off just upgrading the 100-> a 150, sense you mostly use your equptment for HT, and sense in movies 70% of the dialog comes from the center channel… also for the other reason the 50’s play to 22hz, and the cross over, for the ep350 is 40, so you don’t have any gaps in your sound stage.. I think going to 60’s will just make the volume go up, witch you say you don’t really need.. I think the only difference between the 50’s and 60’s is a bit more midbass… have you called axiom, to ask them? They are usually honest, and will actually tell you not to upgrade if you don’t really need to.. hope this helps.

That does help a great deal. Thanks for explaining. Im still new at all this so its kind of hard to decide on what I want. Thanks again.
Well guys, after watching Revenge of the SIth last night and hearing the EP350 rattle a little bit I decided to upgrade to the EP500. Also decided to upgrade to the VP 150 and the QS8's. Will post new pics with the upgraded system when it gets here on Monday.

Ya might as well get the M80s right now.You know that will be next
Are you sure it was the subwoofer rattling and not the subwoofer causing something else in the room to rattle?

In any case, I can see you've caught the upgrade disease bad. Go with the M80s and just be done with it.
ya im sure, put my ear right up to the sub and heard the driver rattle.

m80's are next. :P
Well guys, I did it, I went with the M80's. I now have the M80's, QS8's, VP150, and EP500 system. Cant wait till it gets here on Tuesday. I will post updated pics.

I was thinking about getting the EP600 but living in a townhouse I dont think I would be able to use its real power much.

This sounds like the adventures of BrotherBob all over again
Hey guys, Im just looking at the specs on the M80's and they have an impedance of 4 ohms.

These towers will work with my Denon AVR-885 reciever correct?
Yes your Denon should do just fine.It is one of the brands that the Axiom folks recommend for the M80s.
I thought I heard someone sliding down the slippery slope, so I logged into the Axiom board and sure enough...

That's gonna be a GREAT system !!
Thanks guys, I thought for a minute there I might have to get a different reciever or something.
NEW2,
I have had a similar system for a little over a month now and still sit in amazement at the clarity and the dynamic soundstage that these speakers produce.

I listened to a friend's B&W system last night and had to actually pretend to be impressed. Might have been the room dynamics, or some other yet to be identified factor i.e. cost/expectations, but they just didn't do it for me.

Have fun...
cgrface, what do you have powering your m80's. AV reciever or a seperate amp?
You already said in your other thread that your primary use is movies, not music, correct? The main difference between the 60's and 80's is that the 80's will drive to more insane volumes I have the Denon 2805, and have driven my 60's to volumes that make me very happy. I grew up around 70's and 80's (metal) music so I like it loud sometimes.

I guess I find the 80's may be overkill, for what your purposes are, maybe you have no bottom to your wallet

Randy

sirquack, ya its for HT use, dont listen to much music at home. i just didnt want to feel like "what if i had gone with the M80's" you know what i mean? i am a little concerned though about the 4ohms on these M80's. i have read in a few places that an AV reciever isnt the best thing to use to run 4 ohm speakers. are they talking about for sterio use or for HT use? I like watching movies loud but not so loud that i cant hear someone next to me. you think the Denon Avr-885 will be fine with the M-80's for HT use? thanks
Can't say for sure, according to Axiom and a few others, most Denon's will drive 4 ohm speakers just fine. Not sure if that is referring to every model Denon puts out, or the recent models or higher end models.

I will tell you this, I have about a 30ft x 30ft x 9ft ceilings room and my M60's, combined with the rest of my Axiom speakers will blow you out of the room if you ask them to

I'm actually more interested in investing in the EP500 or EP600 sub at some point. My EP350 does a great job when combined with the 60's bass performance, however, for the real low freq. effects, I think a second sub will help blend better.

Seriously, you do need to give this some thought. I would say if you were the type that likes it crazy loud for the whole block to enjoy, by all means get the 80's

The other day I had my 60's cranking up some Winger and Dokken, my neighbor later asked me if I got a new stereo system, since he could hear the music. It is the dead of Winter here in Iowa, and I have all the windows closed. Besides I live on 3 acres, so it is not like he was right next door. So the M60's, in my opinion will probably be more than you are hoping for.

They are awesome speakers, as are the m80's, such a tough decision...
New2...

I have the 4806 at 140w rms. I am beginning to question whether the amplification power is all that it's cracked up to be since I am hearing so many positive things about the T-amps producing such amazing results with just 10w output(?)

Sorry if my link doesn't work... I know that there are people here (link patrol) that know how to make these things work. Just how do you do that anyway?

Anyway, you will find that you just can't go wrong with these speakers with just about any reciever. Best of luck...

thanks sirquack and cgrface.

i think what i will do is talk a little more with brent from Axiom tommorow and see what he thinks about my reciever and pushing the M80's. There sending out the M80's to me tommorow so I might tell them to hold that order and just send me the M60's instead. my room is about half the size yours is sirquack! maybe M80's are to much. :P
Hey sirquack, you would be proud of me. I called Axiom and told them that I think the 80's are over kill for my smaller room and HT use only and they pretty much agreed. I told them to send me the 60's.
you could get the 600 if its not to late, depending on your budget. if budget isnt an issue I would get the 600. I have an ep 600 in a 10X7 room. Just have the gain turned down on it.. and it fills the room perfect.. remember it doesn’t have to be loud to sound good. I don’t play my stuff real loud, just have a very filling room… just an idea to though out…
>>Besides I live on 3 acres, so it is not like he was right next door.

Oh crap... the new place has a lot of land around it. I probably need M80s to get a decent SPL at the neighbor's place, don't I ?

EDIT -- I don't know what this link is for (it's from a few posts back), but here it is in clickable form -- ah yes, the T-amp thing. Nice small amps are really great... and big honkin' powerful amps are really great too :

thanks alot dakkon. just when i think i have it all figured out you had to go and say that! i think i will stay with the EP500. im sure when it gets here i will be pretty happy with it. if im not i will give the 600 a look.
Dang, I am jealous, your getting a 500 sub ;( they didn't have the 500 or 600 out when I was looking at Axiom back in the day, actually about a year ago.

I hope you like your 60's, I really think you will...

CG... to get you links to work, read the FAQ link above... all you have to do is add the [ url] in front and the [ /url] at the end of the path. Of course, take the space out I put above, otherwise my sentence would have showed up as a link...
You know, new2axiom, you might be able to hear a difference between the EP500 and EP600.

haha, well i do have 30 days.
And 30 nights to boot!

Congrats on your order buddy!

Sutter
you can trade in your old 350 for a 500/600, that is what i did, traded in my 350 for the 600, i think i got 70% of what i paid for the 350.. so i was only out of pocket 1k$ for the 600.. im sure the difference between the 500 and 600 is not that big, the only real difference, is that the 600 will play lower, due to the cabnet size.. exact same driver/amp in both subs..(i think)
i dont have to trade anything in. im still in my 30day trial period. I went with the M60's, VP150, QS8's, and EP500
the trade in info was for sirquack

Now if only they would take trade in on other companies' subs...
haha, kcarlile. i think thats what the guy that bought his stuff off ebay tried to do. hahah
The difference? I was kidding.
ya, i was kidding also. i guess you didnt read the ebay thread where the guy bought his axiom surrounds off ebay for like $200 bucks and wanted to know if he could send them to axiom because he didnt have the right color.
Don't worry we all know who your referring to, the longer your around here you'll figure that out Just hope we don't all get the Jinxflew.
Oh, don't you worry. I read EVERYTHING. Obsessively.
Ken, the beauty of it is that you know better than to believe everything you read.
How long does Axiom allow you to trade in a sub towards an upgrade? Just for subs or other speakers too? I didn't know about this program. Very nice
Very good question, heck my EP350 is in as good as shape as the day I received it, I really pamper my speakers. I''m sure they are not even broke in yet.

Here we go again...
Yeah, you can get that new EP500 for $695, or maybe you can do the b-stock for less. I don't see why they wouldn't let you buy b-stock.

Hoover Dam! I need to find out the details of this program. Not that I need it just yet, very happy. But I'm amazed they offer 70% value. Very generous!
dont know of any limit.. i would think there isnt one, sense all the b stock is sold to family and friends of the company.. call them and ask, i bet they will say yes. but even if they dont, what are you out, a free phone call?
Pssssst........sirquack.....shhhh.......(quietly)

(even quieter).....break-in on subs? Might in fact almost be true!

I've spent untold hours frequenting web sites and forums dedicated to building subs.

.....(learned just enough to be dangerous)so don't quote me on it, but....

Seems that among other things, spiders loosten-up and settle in, adhesives take a final set, yada yada yada, and like that.

So maybe; just maybe, subs DO break-in!

But ya didn't hear it from me
What. . .what? Did somebody hear something? Must be hearing things. . .

nope.......not a thing.......

shhhhhhhhhhh.......
