The more research I do the more confused I get. I recently ran across a product called quietrock that is supposed to be this great sound isolation product with stc values approaching 60 or so. It has test data to apparently prove these claims, but I have recently ran into another company that says they do not recommend this material because it does not work as well as advertised and it is quite expensive. Has anyone used this material and does it do what it claims. Also, I was planing on going ahead and using sic clips with furring channel with r19 insulation, and 1lb mass loaded vinly in my ceiling. with 5/8 drywall. Will this combination do the trick? In other words. Will the people upstairs not hear my movies? Thanks for your feedback. I am really curious to find out actual user reviews for the quietrock material.
jhunt, did you come across that at Quiet Solution? I'm just curious cause I know a lot of people who have purchased their stuff and have had great success with it. Not sure if it's the same as what your talking about though. For what it's worth here's their link.

Yes that is the company I am talking about. I was just curious because the company I am talking to about finishing my ceiling has said they used it and had many people have them call them and install the sic clips with it because it did not work. I was wondering if this is just bad and inconsiderate business practice from the company in question. That is why I asked.
Really, wow, I didn't know that. I'm just going off of those I know who have used it. They've all had great success with it.

What this other company is saying could be true, and I certainly can't say one way or the other, for I really don't know. However, one can't overlook the possibility that they could be trying to steer you away from them in order to get your business.

That being said, everything they're telling you could very well be true. As I said, I just know a few friends of mine have went through Quiet Solution and have had great sucesses with it. I'm sure it's like anything though, meaning a persons milage may vary.

Well to me obviously it worked for them. If the product reduced their noise levels and did what they wanted it too then it was worthwhile. Did any of these individuals test their rooms SPL levels before and after the install? Also did the other idea that i gave give me the same type of sound isolation?
Now you're joggin my memory buddy. lol

I think they did, it's been a few years ago. Not that long really, but with my schedule, I'm lucky if I remember what I did yesterday. lol

I can give them a call and ask what they're readings were before and after.

I would think your idea would work out ok. I have yet to do anything that indepth with my theater room, simply because we'll be moving into our new house within the next two years (having started construction yet). That being said, I'll be running these very same trap lines before too long, for I'm going all out and custom designing my new theater in our soon to be new house. Well, technically I guess you could say we're doing that with the whole house in general.

I'm sorry I can't be more help to ya. I just haven't got that far along with that aspect at this point in time.
