Well I've decided to upgrade again. Going from 60's to 80's. Main reason being is that my upstairs living area is an open 20,000 cu ft area. Although my Ht area is seperated into about 1/4 of that, I want to be able to fill most the area at times when we have parties or alot of guests.
I'm thinking of using a 2 channel amp to drive the M80's. Axiom suggested the Outlaw 2200, and I'm also looking at the Rotel 1080. Any one have experience with either of these, or recommendations for a good amp in a similar price range? Thanks

Have you considered going with the high gloss M80s? Or the veneers?

Re the amp, dunno.

Wow, I never even noticed the custom finishes, nice stuff. But at this point I wanna match sub. My center is from Aperion and has a very high gloss black finish, but its mostly hidden from view.

You will love the M60's, I still do. Just going bigger because my space is so large. From what I understand not a huge difference in sound but the M80's can play alot louder.

HomeDad: by upgrading to the m80s, do you have to pay the return shipping for the m60s to axiom?? Just curious??
Posted By: bugbitten Re: Upgrading again! - 02/01/06 01:45 PM
I can tell you that. No!

Axiom sends labels for return shipping.

Doug is absolutely right, and they arrive tomorrow

How’d you swing that return shipping? Did you recently buy the 60’s?

For amp, I’m running my 80’s with the 1080. Great amp. When I was researching amps, my choices (in my price range) eventually got narrowed down between NAD and Rotel. I decided to go with NAD, ordered it, and then the vendor tried to stick me with extra costs (after he had my CC # ). I got pissed, cancelled the order and bought the Rotels locally. The combo rocks. Crystal clear and loud as hell. Don’t know how loud, cause I can’t tolerate it above 2:00 on the dial (well above 100 db’s).

There are several others here that are using the 1080/1070 combo for their 80s. All are quite happy.

60's are still in 30 day trial, so free return with upgrade.
Thanks for the info on the 1080, thats one of my top choices if I go with a stereo amp. They are really hard to find though, I'm kicking myself for letting one get by me on e-bay for 600.00 a couple days ago. I'm also looking at the 1095 if I go multi.

Michael when they come in let me know how they sound with your 3805. I know there are a few guys here running 80's with their receiver alone without a pre amp. Also would like your opinion how are they compared to the 60's.
Thanks

Clarence , No problem, I plan on doing a side by side of the two with the 3805, and will post my non audiophile opinion of how I thought they compared.

Here is my non-audiophile review from 5/23/05.

I look forward to yours.

The M80 v2's have arrived, and I'm ready to give my first impressions.
To preface this, I'm not an audiophile and would not know the difference between an ohm and a khz, the 80's and the 60's were setup the exact same way, auto-eq and same positions. The music selection varied from Vivaldi to Pink Floyd, sacd and stereo.
In my opinion to put it simply, the 80's have much more presence and a richer clearer sound. They can play much louder than the m60's which I expected, what I did not expect and is very difficult to put into words, although the 60's and 80's sound very similar, the 80's made me feel I was getting something more out of the music.
I'll get a second non expert opinion when the wife gets home.
The Denon 3805 had no problem driving these speakers even at very high levels.
Are they worth $340.00 US more? Imho, every penny

I love my M80 v2 speakers too! All four of them. Listening to 5.1 channel audio on these Axiom speakers is heavenly! :-) OK, I am exaggerating a little, I know...

You're killing me HomeDad! I was looking at the M80s, then decided on the M60s -- now you got me thinking M80s again. My new family room is about done, so I need to order next week. Arrgh... The room is about 6000 cubic ft. so the M60s are likely fine, but the improved sound, clarity, and presence is tempting. BTW, I'm a non-audiophile as well.

Also, NOW I'm looking at a custom finish! I better just order soon and quit bouncing around.

Thanks for the review.

Just get the 80's and be done with it. Really, you won't regrett it or wonder 'what if'. Bout the only drawback I can come up with is real estate. The 80's are pretty deep.

If it's in your budget I would recommend getting Axioms best. I wasn't kidding when I said they were worth every extra penny. I'm just glad I did it before my 30 days were up.

I agree with the last two. Get 'em.
