Hello all- Now that I have the speaker portion of my HT in great shape (Hooray to Axiom), I am getting ready to purchase the Sony 60" SXRD 1080p television, and want to make sure my DVD player does the new Tv proper justice.

I currently have a Denon 2200 and am wondering if I would see a difference if I went w/either a Denon 2910 or the OPPO player using the DVI/HDMI outputs as opposed to the component from the 2200.

I have seen the Secrets DVD Benchmark results, but wanted to get everyone's opininon on if an upconverting DVD player will give me noticeable picture improvement over my already solid 2200.

Thanks in advance to all for any responses.

I own the Denon 3910 as well as the 2200, and to be honest I can't tell that much of a difference when it comes to picture quality . I personally think the 2200's Sil504 converter is actually superior to the dcdi by Faroudja used on the newer Denons.
I think your black levels on the 2910 will probably be improved over the 2200 , but other than that I really don't see much overall improvement in video quality.

Ratpack has the 60 and the Oppo. He'll turn up or PM him.

Are you sure you like the ears? They make it a huge tv. Hate the ears on mine!

Yes, I sure do love the 60" Sony. E-Ring had the WOW factor this evening. Its just like you are there fighting all the bad guys!

I have my OPPO video going directly to the Sony via a DVI/HDMI cable that was supplied by OPPO. I'm not sure if I would actually see any difference with component video, but why try it when you already have the DVI/ HDMI with the OPPO/ Sony combination? I have the audio going from the OPPO via an optical (audio) cable to the Onkyo receiver. Works just fine, sounds and looks GREAT.

Bug: I stopped looking at the Sony's "ears" and I don't notice them any more. I think that they may grow on you. LOL!!! I am really sold on the Sony's picture!!

By the way, I tried outputting both 480P and the 1080I from the OPPO to the Sony. I can't tell a difference. The Sony takes what it gets and then converts to 1080P. I'm not saying that there isn't a difference, only that I can't see a difference.

Thanks Guys. At that price, I can A/B it against my 2200 when I get the TV (Component video for 2200 and HDMI for the OPPO), and then if the 200 is as good or better, I can send back the OPPO.

Rat- What picture mode do you use mostly? (Standard, Movie, Pro etc.)

Thanks again all.

DK, as Bernard pointed out, the processing in the SXRDs themselves may well be good enough so that earlier processing in a player or receiver isn't needed and should be a non-issue.

John- As always, thanks for your quick responses. I am not sure I completely follow. Are you saying that the OPPO quality would have little impact since the signal is being sent via DVI and the Sony would do the conversion, OR are you saying that using component (for my 2200) and letting the DVD player do the conversion at first and sending to the TV would be just as good? Sorry if I'm making this more confusing than it needs to be.

Indicating that sending a 480i signal(which is what DVDs and standard definition TV are)to the SXRDs and not bothering to have a player, receiver or separate deinterlacer/scaler do the processing results in the SXRD internal processing itself doing it, which may well be visibly as good as earlier processing would have been.

You can set each Sony input individually. I have all my used inputs set to PRO.

If you get the Sony, I can write down all the specific inputs in the PRO settings that I have adjusted. Actually, the Sony is very good right out of the box.

I love the OPPO.The big thing I see is it tends to fill the screen better. On my other player I sometimes get the black bars. Can't see that much difference in the picture, but I have a smaller screen.Oh well, btw, the OPPO only outputs 480i.You must use the hdmi.If you have any dvd's of,ahem, questionable origin I have yet to find anything the OPPO wont play.

king: check your OPPO manual on the bottom left of page 20. The DVI output can be set to 480P, 576P, 720P or 1080I output.

I currently have mine set to 1080I, but like I posted earlier, I haven't noticed any difference between it and 480P. Could be just me, however.

i also have the OPPO player and its connected to the Mits 1080p via DVI to HDMI connector...i have it setup at 1080i but honestly i cannot see any difference in the pix quality. audio output to the C1 via optical cable seems to be clear and crisp
