I am looking at getting the M22 and have a stand that I really like at 24 inches. I know the recommended stand is 16. Is that much of a difference? Anyone using 24 stands?

You can decide for yourself if 24 inch stands would be OK. The rule of thumb is that you want the center of the tweeter (the top driver in the M22s) to be, approximately, at the same height your ears will be when comfortably seated in your listening area. 24 inch stands, plus 19.8 inch speakers, equals 42.8 inches. Subtract the distance from the top of the speaker to the center of the tweeter, I'm just guessing it's around 3 inches, and you get 39.8 inches. Call it 39 inches.

Sit in your chair/sofa/recliner and measure how high your ears are. It works best to have someone else do this cuz you can only approximate where your own ears are. If the that height is within a few of inches of 39", either way, you should be fine.

Keep in mind that the "same height as your ears" thing is only a guideline. The idea is not to have too great a discrepancy between the height of your ears and the height of the tweeter.

Hi wspanic,

You can use the M22ti's with 24-inch stands with great success, as I do. The M22s have sufficiently good lateral and vertical dispersion that they aren't all that sensitive to modest variations in stand height.

I used to have the M22s on 16-inch stands (in a stereo plus subwoofer setup). When I moved them into a home theater array, I used the higher stands to raise the perceived soundstage to about the same height as the screen on my HD set.

The transparent qualities of the M22s sound don't change significantly with modest differences in height.

Regards,
My homemade stands are at 24". I lowered them from about 30" and think that they are now at the perfect height for my room.
I don't use any stands at all for my M22's. I think I am one of the very few that uses M22's for desktop computer speakers. They simply sit on my desk, about 24 inches high. For music, I am sitting right at my desk and am only about 1 foot away from the speakers, which is very nice because they seem loud to me but not to other people because I am so close to them. For music, it is best to have the tweeters ear level for best sound. However, whenever we watch movies in my dorm room, I move the left speaker on to my roomate's desk on the other wall, and my desk and his desk are about 24 inches tall, and movies sound great. You shouldn't have a problem with those stands.

Here's a picture to show you how tall everything is. The roomate's desk is over to the left of the picture, same hight as my desk.

I'm also on the 24" stands. I experimented with some different heights, but this is where the m22s sounded best to me (and that's what it is about isn't it?). I'm using the Axiom stands and had some concerns about stability, but using the spikes on carpet I find them to be solid.
