Since I did have room for two sets of 7.1 systems, I sold and delivered a pair to a long time friend in the Portland area. He loves the 80s and is now saving up funds for a complete 5.1 Axiom system, so they have a great home. The other three 80s and the QS8s, I sold to a neighbor down the street, I delivered the 80s, installed the spikes, and set them in place, that was about 3 months ago. Long story, but they was a delay in things and about 4 weeks ago I called and told him the QS8s were able to be picked up.
Last Friday, I asked him to come and get the surrounds, he then informs me there was a problem with his girlfirend and the 80s, she did not want them in the house, so wanted to return them. I went down last evening to pick up my 80s, and I find that he had moved them from the family room into the dinning room so his gf did not need to see them. The dummy had sat them side by side with the spikes up so they would not damange the carpet, one of the GF issues. With them not being the most stable that way, was lucky his cats had knocked them over.
So now the Axioms are back home and safe, and well outside washing the vehicles today, I had a thought, I had purchased a pair of the W3s for the garage, which ended up in the master bedrroom. So instead of selling the Axioms to another person that has no clue about treatment of good speakers, I made the decision that I will just use the Axioms in a 5.1 system for the garage.
I have the old Sony DE-935 that I will power them with, and using zone 2 out of the C2, I can feed the audio out from the main system to the Sony. I have an old powered sub woofer that will work till I get a good deal on an Axiom sub of some sort. Luck have it, I just cleaned and organized the garage last weekend, so this weekend I'll be getting the Axioms in place and some wires ran so I can locate the ideal locations for the 80s and the QS8s. Will post some pics once they are in place if people are interested.

Audio only, or are you putting a TV out there too ?

Front projector on the inside of the garage door ?

Sounds like a great acoustical setup...movies in the garage? or just 5.1 music?
Posted By: bray Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/08/06 02:53 AM
Did you report your neighbor to the proper speaker authorities.
People that would abuse speakers by making them stand on their tweeters side by side should be reported. I hope Amie and Ian dont hear about this.
It makes me happy to see that there are people like you to take in abused speakers.
Does your garage have central heat and air for your orphans?

M80s for a garage system? That is a mighty fine garage system.

If I ever put a system in the garage, it ISN'T going to be my M80s.

WOW.

Nah, the bathroom on the main floor is used the most, and actually has good sound from the main system. The Axiom/Halo system upstairs serves that floor really well.

Now that you mention it, I have the 20" Sony that was wall mounted above the spa, but once the Sony 60" was in place, no longer needed it. This afternoon it occured to me of having that, so plan on wall mounting it above the center 80, and a video feed from the main system..

Why not have movies and 5.1 in the garage, I spend a lot of time out there, and it will give a certain neighbor something else to bitch about. I parked the GT on that side last weekend well cleaing out the garage. Was not in front of his house at all, I was told to move it my side of the street. lol

This is great. You're going to have the audio equivalent of a firehose for crowd control if he ever gets out of line
Posted By: SirQuack Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/08/06 03:47 AM
I know a few people that have outdoor evening movie nights where they project a movie on the Garage Door and let the neighborhood set up chairs in the drive to enjoy... I can see it now, Axiom's rocking that CA town.

Well the Axiom system is already paid for, and the Rockets are now paid for, so does not make a lot of sense to sell these Axioms, and buy in walls. The weather conditions here in the valley is mild, no extreme colds, in the summer since the garage is on the north side of the house, it remains cool. No moisture, humidity is not an issue so they should be rather happy in that area.
I talked with Amie and she reminded me they have Axioms in the boat house, have had for several years and no problems, so I see no reason not to do it.

You never said anything about giving the Axioms to poor college kids...
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/08/06 07:00 AM
Um.... poor college kids don't already have a 5.1 Axiom system with a Hsu sub. Trust me. I had home built crapass speakers with Radio Shack drivers. And I wasn't poor, either.
Posted By: player8 Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/08/06 08:21 AM
I don't know about Dan, but I've busted my ass for my 5.1 Axiom and Hsu setup. I've flipped burgers, sold coupons door-to-door in the middle of summer (in PHX no less), and sold cell-phones, and AC service over the past few years to fund my system and other hobbies. Trust me, I'm not well-off by any stretch of the word. This isn't my point, I think I deserve some M80's as a graduation present!

Let's see.........................my first job was at about 8 years old, took 30 mintues each day, six days a week. Paid a whole $ 1.50 per week, thats what paid for my first new bike. lol
So after 48 years of working it is nice to be able to afford a few toys, so sorry, as much as I would like to be a nice guy and give away a set of Axioms ..................don't count on it.
Posted By: bugbitten Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/08/06 04:40 PM
I think it's great to have great sounds outside as well as in. Your neighbors get to enjoy them too.
Posted By: newkid2005 Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/08/06 05:22 PM
hope nobody complained when i parked on the street !!!!!!!!
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/08/06 05:42 PM
This guy puchased the house about 18 months ago from the orignal owner for $ 475k. With in a few months he had three new vehicles, a 30 ft RV trailer, new motorcycle, and other toys. He ignored all of the CRC ( agreement that all owners agree to when buying into this development). Seems his grandfather had won a lottery he is one of his favorite grand kids, so the guy gets a check every six months.
So he is pretty much alienated he and his family from the rest of the 11 neighbors. Seems I have become the most popular one that pisses him off. Becasue when he replaced a section of lawn with concrete and thought he was going to park the 30' RVin the front yard, and block 75% of the sidewalk, I pushed the city ordinance that he was breaking. So we started off on a bad note.

Good on you for taking a stand. Drives me crazy when people are so presumptuous to think that because they own the property (and in some cases simply becausse they have lots of money), they can do what ever they like.

When I was much younger, there was a guy on our street who owned a concrete business. He was going to expand his house until someone pointed out the zoning limitations. He ended up moving to a location (two streets over) where he built a new house dedicated to entertaining. Ended up drinking too much, lost his wife, went bankrupt and sold the house to a father of one of my friends.

Yea but some of these homeowner associations are out of control. I just got a letter about my yard needing maintenence. It is February, the grass stopped growing months ago, what the hell do they want me to do paint the damn grass green? I am not sure by what they mean by "maintenence" but they should be more specific.
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/08/06 07:04 PM
This is not a normal home owners association that has a lot of rules and takes away ones freedom of owning a house. It is just a list of theings to keep the neigbor hood from becoming run down and loose value. Things like no RVs in the yard or the street, all the houses are stucco and no need to reaping for 25 years or so, if you decided to change your house color, get the neighbors opinion. This is to stop someone from painting there house like a 1960s hippie house. lol

All houses have fences on the sides and back, do what you like. But replacing what small lawns there are with concrete, is not cool as well. But as for yards/landscaping in the front, no one patrols and send you a nasty letter if you have not mowed for a month or so. lol

Since I pushed the RV storage in his yard, after he spent about $10k re-doing with concrete for it.....he now uses it to park his truck, but needs to drive over the curb to do it. He has been fined a few times, becasue that is a code violation, but since money is no object, he continues to park on his pad. lol

So the Axioms in the garage will piss him off, even if they are not loud, simply becasue all he has is a boom box in his garagge. And roumor has it granddad is pissed, and cut off the flow of money now.

but I'm sure you knew that

Placed the first of the 80s in the garage this morning to see how they will look.

Posted By: SirQuack Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/09/06 07:12 PM
You should get some of that Epoxy 2-part Garage Floor paint with paint flex in it for your floor. I used it in our storage room in the basement and it is sooooo easy to keep clean now, and looks nice to boot.
Posted By: bugbitten Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/09/06 07:19 PM
They just look good in any room!
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/09/06 07:24 PM
Have had that on garage floors before, this time the budget is going on a product that will allow relocation to the next garage. Have a design plan for the floor, which will go with the GT and Z, and with a few swaps of tiles, change when cars are replaced.

The 80s are a pain to move from upstairs to the garage alone.

Posted By: RickF Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/09/06 08:14 PM
Homeowners associations....yuck. Our last house in Orlando had one and I was one of the few who kept our yards manicured to a 'T' ... no one said a word, good or otherwise. We bought a brand new boat (nice and shiny), kept it in storage and I would go get it the night before and park it in the driveway for the next days boating, well lo and behold if it wasn't but a couple of times that one particular piss ant complained our boat was parked in the driveway overnight so I got a ticket.

We moved to the beach, no homeowners association and the neighborhood looks ten times better than our other 'hood ... even with folks having huge boats, RVs parked beside their houses and all everybody keeps their yards very well manicured also. We're all a bunch of older rouges ... somebody brought up the idea of a homeowners associations a while back and collectively we dropped kicked that notion faster than light travel. Our next boat will be parked right beside the house where I poured a concrete pad specifically for it.

Nice pics Dennis, glad to hear you got the 80s back ... you know they sound equally as well in the house!
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/09/06 08:25 PM
I can understand wanting to park toys on ones property, I have always lived on acreage and done as I pleased. But when one moves into these California communities and you have no yard to speak of, you need to make consessions. When one starts to block things like sidewalks and fire hydrants, I tend to speak up.
The only good area for the 80s and Qs is the garage actually, all the other areas of the house will just not work for them. Actually I will get more use out of them in the garage than trying to squeeze in the house. lol

I hear you there Dennis. That's what always yanked my chain in the old place, even with the homeowners associations folks didn't think nothing of parking in the street or on the sidewalk and oh man, don't even get me started on the chuckleheads who's lawn always looked as though they kept Roundup on it but for some strange reason they sure didn't like the idea of the boat in the driveway overnight ... sometimes wonder if it were my Cummins diesel starting up at 4 in the morning.

If you can believe it, about a year ago a neighbor at the end of the cul-de-sac had a party on the weekend. The street was packed with cars, and instead of parking around the corner, a nice person parked his Hummer in my drive way. When I opened the garage door I could even believe it, walked down to the party, found the person, asked him to move his Hummer. He thoguht was he would move it when he got around to it, came home, called the police and had them remove it.

I just powered up the 80s, and I may not get much else done today now. lol

Careful Tharkun, if this guy has as much cash as you say, he'll buy a bigger, louder system!

LOL...........I doubt it, but he will need to go some to out power the 80s, and I don't have the funds to power them with Halos.

Is that a subwoofer in the corner ?

Un... your garage is cleaner than my house. Better paint, too.
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/10/06 04:23 AM
Of course it's a sub......me without a sub. lol Just an old Jamo SW-410E out of a 5.1 HT box system, will do for now. Will eventually upgrade it to an Axiom sub most likely.

John is being kind, he is not moved to the new house so is referrimg to his current house. As for the sound, about equal on the power for this one, since I'm not running Halos on it. He has a better sub !!
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/10/06 05:42 AM
John has the nice Axiom stands for the Qs, tomorrow I have the fun of pulling wire into finished drywall.
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/10/06 07:35 PM
Just finished installing the QS8s but still need to conceal the wiring. Thanks to the builder, I'll need to chamge the plan to using some wiremold to do it, but I guess its okay since it is just a garage. lol

Excuse the mess in this pic, need to finish moving things out of the garage to my workshop.

No worries about the extra stuff in the shot...

You should see my garage...and we have been in the new house almost a year...SHEESH!

Great looking and I bet great sounding!

Actually is sounding better than I expected. Once I have the Audio connection from the main system, will be cool to go from house to the garage with no interruption to the sound.
Posted By: F107plus5 Re: Axioms Return Home !!! - 02/10/06 11:32 PM
Ah,...the happy memories of a 12volt powered reading lamp near the "stereo"!!

In '73 I placed my brand new '74 Triumph Trident in the living room cuz I didn't have a garage or a bike cover.

(The wife and I hadn't been married long enough for her to have gained complete control and power as yet, so the new bike went in the house!!)

All Was cool til; just before taking the bike out in the spring, I decided to check the oil level.

No Oil visible on the stick!

So I topped it up.

Then, I looked in the book.

Oil can seep past the oil pump and into the primary chain case.

I pulled the inspection plug.

The oil level was way above the level of the plug.

I heard sounds even five M80s couldn't reproduce

That was the last time the bike sat on the carpet in the livingroom.

.....most of us would be happy with just ONE great system!!
Rich.
