4 or 8 ohm??? - 10/17/01 04:56 AM

Greetings Again!

I am currently putting together my first HT system as you all know and I have a few questions in regards to the equipment I am purchasing. I plan on purchasing the Outlaw Audio 1050 to be the powerplant for my HT. For speakers I am going with 2 sets of M22ti's for the front and rear, a VP150 center and the EP350 for the low end. Now, the Outlaw has the option of either running in 8 or 4 ohm loads. It also has the ability to work in either large (no bass management) and small mode. Now, the VP150 is rated as a 4 ohm speaker where as the M22ti's are 8 ohm. What would you recommend the set-up be using the Outlaw 1050 given this setup? Would there be any problem running the Outlaw in the 4 ohm mode or would it be best to keep everything at an 8 ohm level, giving the VP150 the large mode and the satellites the small mode? I do not want to destroy the clarity of sound or damage the speakers upon initial setup. Thanks for the advice!

This may be a better question for Outlaw to answer as opposed to us. The actual impedance of the VP150 is 5.5 ohms and it is possible this will be OK on the Outlaw at the 8 ohm setting. No problem to run the Outlaw in the large mode with the Axiom products you are purchasing. You should try both settings in your room and see which you prefer.

I think that most receivers use the 8 Ohm setting for both 6 and 8 ohm speakers. So a mix of 8 and 6 ohm should be set to 8. My Vp150 is actually marked 6 Ohm.

As for the Outlaw 1050...it has gotten good reviews but is starting to need a little updating. Such as Prologic 2(great for music, old VHS tapes and Satellite TV viewing). IT also lacks 5 channel stereo. It is very sturdy though and apparently sounds great.

As for speakers, Myself, I sould go with M50 or M60 fronts with M2 or M3 rears.

Other than that, I'd say go for it.
