Over in "Mounting QS8s with drywall anchors?", sirquack wrote "Mine are mounted down from the ceiling."

I'm about to do that myself and had some questions.

I'm looking at the Omnimount Ceiling 20.0 (in White if you must know ). It has a threaded end that is intended to screw into a threaded hole in whatever is supposed to be mounted. Has anyone had any experiences with this mount? Can the threaded hole in the back of the QS8 support the load of the speaker?

Thanks,

Hi Beth,

I recommended the same Omnimount ceiling mount to your Dad. His installer said they don't care for the Omnimount, but I talked to Brent at Axiom, and he said they recommend Omnimount all the time.

Here's the problem though. If you have the threaded inserts in the back of the your QS8s, Axiom recommends the Omnimount 10 lb. model because the threaded insert in the QS8s is sized to fit the 10 pound model. The 20 lb. model won't fit the insert on the QS8s.

Axiom says the 10 lb. model holds the 11 lb. QS8s just fine. HOWEVER, if you'd be more comfortable with the 20 lb. model, it comes with a plate you can mount on the QS8s rather than use the treaded insert.

Here the best prices I've found for the Omnimounts. Do you own search to see if you can do better.

Omnimount 10.0

Omnimount 20.0

My advice is to call Axiom, explain who you are, and ask what they think. They won't steer you wrong.

Oh, so if I call Axiom and drop your name, what do I get, Jack? I know, gotta be a blood relative. Most people don't know that you're the Don of the Cleveland mafia. Or how your screen name comes from the creative way in which you eliminated the competition with household cleaners.

Beth, I really thought sirquack's solution was brilliant, elegant and inexpensive.

You'll probably get your forum membership revoked.

I think the problem with sirquack's solution, for Beth anyway, is I believe she will be mounting the surrounds on a sloped ceiling. I could, however, be mistaken. I was, once. I think it was in 1965, but I can't remember now.

Well, I *WAS* planning on mounting the QS8s on the slopes, but that was mostly because I couldn't think of a good way of dangling them from a ceiling mount. However, since them you had pointed me in the direction of the OmniMount Ceiling mount while discussing options for my Dad's gear. I liked what I saw

BTW: You mentioned "his installer". Does that mean he's found someone to help him get his gear connected? He came to visit us over the Christmas break this year, so I didn't go see him to get him going.

Anyway, all this with the QS8s and the Screen is because I found someone local who will pull cabling at a reasonable price. If I'm going to mount things, they'd better be right because making changes will be a pain.

Thanks for the pointer!

Hi Tom,

I must have missed where sirquack posted his solution that you mentioned. Any pointers?

Beth, here's a tread with a photo of Randy's shelf bracket mounts. QS8 Placements

Hi Beth -

Randy's solution probably would not work on a sloped ceiling, but I was taken by its simplicity.

Here are his updated photos of the most compelling reason I have to visit Iowa.

I thought I got out of my monthly beating.

Hah! If you only knew the difficult time I had finding the links I posted. Had I known you were gonna respond, trust me, I'd a been glad to let you carry the day. Did I think to look to see if you were still on the forum? NOOOOOOOO!

My search skills are puny. I can never think of a good word to use for the search. First I used "bracket" and waded through a number of posts and threads. No luck! Then I tried "Randy," and waded through another bunch of posts and threads. No luck. Then I miraculously remembered the name of the store where he got them, Menards. Finally, my efforts were rewarded just in time to nip you at the finish line.

Did it occur to me to use the more efficacious search function that Peter came up with? OF COURSE NOT! I couldn't remember where I put the link anyway. AAARRRGGGHHH!
