I have an old pair of NAD speakers and would like to replace the woofers, but of course NAD no longer makes speakers or replacement parts. What I'm wondering,is it possible to refit the woofers and/or the tweeters with different brand parts with any success? I hate to waste good cabinets. The speakers still work but at medium to high volumes they are raspy. Is such a procedure possible? I would probably have to drill new holes to fit parts.

I may take a bit of Googling but there are literally dozens of sites, many through the major component retailers on line who have forums, with folks for which this kinda stuff is what they live for!!

You'll find out about Thiele/Small parameters that help you determine what fits where; you'll run across free programs that let you plot these speakers curves in relation to the internal volume which you have to work with!!

But yeah! If you want to have a lot of fun and salvage your cabinets: Look into DIY!!

If the woofers are still functioning, the raspy noise at higher volumes may be from the cone coming in contact with the voice coil. This is usually caused from deteriorated foam surrounds which are easy to replace
