Well, I saw a pair of Ohm Walsh-2's in very good cosmetic condition and grabbed them for $80.

For some reason, without ever having listened to Ohm speakers, I heard they were 'great' sounding speakers, and had a positive impression of them. They probably are highly rated by folks who think Bose 901s are great speakers.

I just swapped out a pair of Dahlquist DQM 905s and hooked up the Ohm Walsh 2's to a Kenwood KA9100 amp and a Sony CDP CA9ES CD Player in my garage system. I use the cross over in a modified Kenwood SW300 sub (Dayton Titanic 10" driver).

I love the Dahlquist M905s and was hoping that the Ohm Walsh 2s would be even better. They are not. The highs were dull, the bass, muddy.

I heard that the Ohms need 125 wpc to shine, but at the listening levels I'm comfortable with, the Kenwood rarely is asked to put out more than 10 watts per channel according to the power meters.

Anyway, they're good looking, nice wood.
Sorry to hear the sound wasn't up to snuff. I can't seem to find the words to describe those speakers. I'm trying to picture if I could stand to look at those day after day as my everyday speakers. Maybe they look better in person.

I've never heard any omni-directional speakers. 2x6, have you had a chance to hear any to compare them to? I'm guessing the sound would be very dispersed but enveloping. It seems they would rely heavily on room acoustics.

Hi SPG

The only speakers I A/B'd them with are the Dahlquists, and the Ohms came out much the worse for the comparison. The Dahlquists are among the best speakers I've heard.

Today, I checked the bottoms of the Ohms, they have a setting for bass and treble, both of which were set to the max positions. I put them in the mid positions, and listened to them for a few minutes. They sound better but not world class.

Oh well, win some, lose some.
Well, look at it this way; With a bit of electrical work and some stylish lampshades, you can have a very nice set of reasonably priced floorlamps.

...."Frankengleam" originals!

LOL about the lamps.

Sorry to hear about the Ohms, 2x6. Sometimes you find some gems, sometimes you don't. Hope your next audio purchase is more satisfying.

Well, if you aren't happy with those 2's, I'd gladly take them off your hands- they probably just need a checkup, those speakers are somewhere between 20-24 years old!

I've been in touch with John S. at Ohm. He thinks there's a problem with the top cans. When I get a chance, I will send them to him, see if they need repair, and do an update review in detail. He was very polite and helpful!

I hope to have something good to say about these speakers.
