I am planning on purchasing M22's, VP100, M2's, and either the ep175 or ep350. I'm mainly concerned about which subwoofer to get. Really the only other home sub I've spent time with is a paradigm pdr-10. How much improvement would I likely see with an upgrade to the ep175? ep350? Also the pdr-10 is in a large room whereas the axiom will be in a much smaller room.

I'm trying to put off buying as long as possible so I can learn more about home audio, but it is tearing me up inside! I got an RX-V2600 a couple months ago and up until two weeks ago it was powering some logitech computer speakers... Now it is doing nothing until I get the axioms. Obviously I'm following a slightly different buying philosophy with the speakers, ha. I had to get out of the car audio scene, after the one millionth post asking how to wire two 4 ohm subs into 2 ohms I knew I was in the wrong place.

Cava welcome,
Imho if choosing between the EP175 and the EP350 I would go with the 350, I don't think you can really have to much sub for a room regardless of the size.
Before you go with either though if you can give us an idea of your room size that would help. And there may be some suggestions for a sub in the EP175 and EP350's price range that may fit your needs better.

I'm not having much luck finding real specs on the PDR-10 performance. The Paradigm site says "bass extension to 27 Hz" and the footnotes add "-3dB measured in a typical listening room" but there are no anechoic specs to compare with the Axiom subs.

The enclosures are about the same size and power levels are comparable, although the Axioms seem to have a bit more power and the aluminum cone should be a bit more rigid when working hard.

Based only on specs and reviews my guess is that the EP175 would slightly outperform the Paradigm but the difference would be "noticeable" rather than "night and day". The EP350 would definitely move more air and go a bit deeper into the bass.

Bottom line -- I don't know, maybe someone else has more info

The room is about 11x16 I think. My questions are vague, I know, I'm just looking for some sort of reassurance that I won't regret spending the extra money. Anyone know of some cheap solutions for stands? I don't really want to spend the time to weld up my own, but I also don't want to spend over $100 for two stands. And that's ignoring the rear speakers for now...

I am sure you are familiar with HSU and SVS subs as well, here are a couple of their offerings for a little less than the EP350. Just to make choosing a more difficult affair...

For the HSU STF3 ($599.00 USD+ 53.00 s/h):

For SVS PB12NSD ($599.00 USD):

Has anyone heard both a EP175 or EP350 in comparison to a HSU STF-2? I would be interested to hear what you thought. I am considering a EP175/350 as well and used to have the STF-2... I would love to know which is better.

The problem with buying a non-axiom sub is no more 5% discount. Kind of defeats the purpose of going a little cheaper for a sub.

Any item (cable, plug, etc) counts toward the 5 item discount.

I think Cava is saying "no discount on the sub". The 5 item threshold is reached with mains, center and surrounds -- you don't need to add a banana plug to get the HT discount

Agreed, but he doesn't have to commit to all the speakers at one time. Order the M22s and some accessories to see if he likes them.

For the newer folks showing up on the board and seeking information regarding Axiom products it *may* be helpful if you include your geographical location...there *may* be an Axiom owner not too far from you who would most probably be more than happy to let you take a listen of their system.

In the past I've read several enquiring post and wondered if the particular person was close by.
