I should have known better, but...

A month or so ago I finally got around to moving the M40s from my old house to the cabin (that's what my friends are calling the new house). Old bedroom was about 13x20, new bedroom maybe 11x14. The M40s never really sounded right in the new room, despite some experimentation with placement.

Between getting fed up with the sound, and trying to find space for a 70's Wurlitzer organ that didn't involve carrying it up two flights of stairs to the loft, I ended up moving the receiver and speakers from the bedroom out to the living room (maybe 16x20, but opening into dining/kitchen area on the side and a cathedral ceiling / loft above. Placement was "close to the receiver" as dictated by the speaker cables, about 4 feet apart and 2 feet from the wall.

Dang !!

You wouldn't think they were the same speakers. The sound was *much* more balanced, bass was smoother, everything sounded much more "natural".

Now I have to listen to all my damn albums again.

Yet another clue as to how important the room is to particular speakers.

I wish there was some kind of computer program where you could input your speaker and room parameters and it'd tell you how it's all gonna work together. Wishful thinking, I know, but still . . .

Happy listening, bridgman!

You're kidding, right ? I'm supposed to pick a new avatar every freakin' month ?

John, good to hear from you again. Yes, heard that Doc is preparing a paper for the Journal of Psychiatry and it's necessary for the purpose of his study that he have sufficient behavioral samples to analyze, hence new avatars are required on a monthly basis.

Welcome back stranger, glad to hear that the new location is working out for you ... I've always been an advocate of location/placement and better sound.

Regarding the avatar, Stevie and I did it one month and that was enough.
