I am looking for this type of product but can't seem to find it on monoprice. Has anyone seen this on monoprice?

http://www.amazon.com/Cables-4-Feet-Stereo-Connector-Cable/dp/B000JG3WBY/ref=pd_sim_e_1

I would rather get a monoprice cable than some random off brand one. Unless someone can suggest a good and inexpensive alternative for this particular cable.

That's pretty awesome, but I've never seen anything like it.

That's actually a decent price. I have one that goes to a 3.5mm connector (headphone jack) for the car. It cost me $20.

That is a good price. The one I had made for my Creative cost me $45. It had to be hand made because no such product is available for the Creative.

This is a pretty good price for what it is. I guess that I am a little bit spoiled by monoprice though. They make very beefy cables and usually around the same price (or cheaper) than the off-brand cables.

Nick,

Does it have to have the dock connector for your application? If not, these are what I use.

66 cents each... I have about 10 of them at home for various uses (laptop headphone out to Denon, camcorder audio out to denon, iPod out to various receivers all over my house).

I think this should work for what you have in mind... the only difference between connecting from the dock to the receiver via RCA and the headphone jack to receiver via RCA is that volume controls on the iPod do impact the volume over your system when plugged into the headphone jack. The iPod volume control does not have any effect when plugged in through the dock plug.

Hi Jason,

And, according to my engineering colleague at Axiom, the output from the iPod dock is at a lower level than that obtainable from the headphone jack.

Someone needs to invent an inline amp (battery powered) that ups the juice from a headphone jack just enough to power receivers or a car deck. Yes, I know that's already invented, but I'd like to see one small enough to conveniently hang without bulk or weight for application in a car. I have to max out the volume on my Zune to feed the deck in my Jeep. Then of course, I forget what it's at and in it's cranked when I plug the earphones back in.

I have this http://www.boostaroo.com/store_detail.php4?id=13 to power 300Ohm headphones with my iPod and it works very well (otherwise 300Ohm sounds like a flatline of dynamic compression).

The only problems is that it uses AAAA batteries. I have not found rechargeable ones so it is tad annoying. I have not yet depleted the first set so I cannot tell you how they last.

With this small thingy, my Sennheiser PXC250 and even my HD650 sound like if they were plugged into my receiver.

Jason,

I tryed one of these headphone jack outputs in my car through the aux-in and wasn't very happy with it. I have to nearly turn the volume on the ipod to maximum so that it is at the same level as the cd player. I think that this will be introducing some noise into the system by doing this, but I am not sure. If I keep the volume on the ipod at less than half then I have to turn the volume on the car stereo up so loud that I have noise from the amp. Not to mention that sometimes I unhook the car jack and hook up my headphones and get blasted away. I think that the dock connector is the best (and most audiophile) way to hook up the ipod. I am looking into getting a similar ipod connector for my car stereo but it costs about $150. It also charges the battery and will allow me to skip through the songs in five play lists though the cd changer controls on the car stereo.

That amazon listing shows the mfg.r as "cables to go" From what I've seen, cables to go is one and the same as "Impact accoustics" See item in question on the Impact site here which I have purchased from before I learned of Monoprice. I would put them in the league of BJC.
I may try one of those myself.

Duckman,

Thanks. Great eye noticing that these are probably Impact Acoustics cables. They also make great cables. I'll go ahead and pick one of these up. This should hold me over until I can get one of these.

I have a 160 gig ipod and all of my cd's stored on it in apple lossless compression. With the Keyspan, I can have a whole house audio system using some extra speakers and an old Onkyo avr that isn't being used. Well, once I pick up a Niles speaker selector as well, I'll be all set.

Interesting Nick. I have the RCA line in from the headphones hooked up to my Denon and can honestly say that I've never heard any noise introduced to the signal. It would be interesting to compare a dock connector's audio signal to that from the RCA.
Posted By: oldskoolboarder Re: ipod line out to rca - 10/27/08 11:04 PM
I definitely find the dock connector to be much cleaner, though lower in output because it's a line out.

My wife also uses her I-pod connected via the headphone jack to her '06 stock Dodge Grand Caravan RCA inputs and it sounds great. Yes, the I-pod's volume is almost maxed out but we have also never heard any noise introduced as a result.
We picked up our cable for only ~$5.00 at a grocery store and we are very happy with it. Plus at that price we can throw one in every vehicle and have one lying around the house.

If you are looking for a dock, here are 2 possibilities:

Tekkeon

DLO 3.0

I just got a mini to rca cable from bluejeans. All my other sources are via hdmi. the mini to rca appears to introduce some noise "static?" into the music compared with the digital source. It isn't very bad, but noticable.
Posted By: myrison Re: ipod line out to rca - 10/31/08 01:19 PM
Hey Listener - I either got lucky with my 90 cent mini to RCA cable from Monoprice or I need to clean out my ears because I haven't heard the static introduced, though several other people have. (On the one hand, I'm glad I don't hear it, on the other, I'm starting to get a small complex that my hearing sucks) \:\)

Sorry to hear you're having the static effect too. I do have a direct dock connector in my car, but since that's a different stereo system than I have inside with my Axioms it's hard to compare apples to apples.

Let's start the Halloween festivites, bobbing for apples anyone?
Posted By: pmbuko Re: ipod line out to rca - 10/31/08 03:10 PM
Depends on the apples and who they belong to.

"Bobbing for Apples" by Regina Spektor is a great song.

Halloween should be Regina Spektor day, she already has the perfect name for it.

Hey guys, I found a similar item for the car.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det...KX0DER&v=glance

Now I'm all set for in the car in and in the house for about $30 total.

Hey, I've got a car audio/line in issue. Maybe I'll try bouncing it off of you guys. When I bought my '01 Civic last year, the guy said it used to have a sirius radio (actually gave me the thing). There's a 3.5mm plug hanging out of the center console, along with the antenna connection and a power plug. I figured, great, I'll use that 3.5mm input with my iPod. I can't figure out how to switch to that input on the factory stereo. It's a CD head unit, with a 6 disc in dash CD changer, so I'm guessing he had the CD changer added in later when he got rid of the Sirius service. But I could be wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
Posted By: Wid Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/01/08 06:06 PM

Is there something on the head unit that says auxiliary? I know in my daughter car the input has to be changed.
Posted By: myrison Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/01/08 06:45 PM
In one of our cars, the radio has to be changed to XM mode to activate the iPod dock that we installed aftermarket in place of the XM radio. It could be though that the 3.5mm input used to run into the Sirius head unit that was behind the factory radio and without that there, it's a 3.5mm 'bridge to nowhere.'
Posted By: Ken.C Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/01/08 08:05 PM
Nope, the only source buttons I have are AM/FM and Tape/CD. Which is a good trick, since there's no tape unit in the car. I've got the Sirius module--it's the standalone one that could be used in either a car or with a regular stereo.
Posted By: myrison Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/01/08 09:54 PM
Ok, next suggestion, I've also seen it where you press AM/FM or Tape/CD several times to cycle through until you reach the input option that isn't listed. Any chance this will work?

i.e. in our Toyota, pressing CD when it is already on CD goes to input "CD1" which is actually XM, which in our case has been replaced with an iPod input. (guessing you've tried all this, but it can't hurt to double-check)

Yeah, I've tried cycling the CD button, but it only goes between the changer and the internal CD. I haven't tried cycling the AM/FM recently, but since this was an add in, I suspect that it wouldn't be there. Guess I should just pull off the dash (blech) and have a look see.

Scary thought! Good luck. \:D
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/02/08 10:12 PM
You didn't note whether or not you just plugged the iPod in...(?)

I've heard of head units that sense a signal present and switch automatically....
Posted By: myrison Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/03/08 02:53 AM
Even if that does solve the problem, he'd never admit it at this point! ;\)
Posted By: Ken.C Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/03/08 03:35 AM
Pretty sure I've tried that. I suspect it's just disconnected behind the dash to make space for the CD changer. Which doesn't work as I think a changer should work: when you hit shuffle, it only does one disk. Period. So it'll shuffle disc one, play the whole thing, then move to disc 2...
Posted By: myrison Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/03/08 12:45 PM
Aha! In both of my cars, I get either CD Changer or XM (now iPod). You probably have to get behind the dash and swap plugs back there.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: ipod line out to rca - 11/03/08 03:30 PM
Yeah, I was afraid of that. The Civic dash is a bear.
