I moved my M22's out to the garage the other night to find out what they sound like.I have read a few posts that describe M22's as being harsh and very forward,in the garage they are just that.Not very many soft surfaces out there,could only listen to them for about half an hour.They sound great in our TV room.So I'm thinking about getting a set of M3's,Have read that they are quite layed back.Now being that they will live in the garage for the rest of their lives sould i go with the M3's or the Algonquin M3's.I do some wood work and welding out there from time to time.Any sugestions?

If there is any moisture in your region, I'd go with the Algonquins. M3s are designed for that environment.

I bought some cheap PA (DJ) speakers for my workshop. They're efficient as loud as hell for when they need to be louder than the tools....Not that I'm not advocating that you damage your hearing.

But for me, the ability to crank them and not have to worry about damage from sawdust, etc., made them a good choice.

Truth is, they sound much better than they have a right to for the price. Of course, my workshop isn't sucky-square, either.

From my own listening impressions of the M3's I would not call them quite laid back. They M3's are probably less detailed and the M22's are more accurate (never have listened to the M22's). It would be a safe bet that the M3's are probably more forgiving to poorer/sibilant recordings.

These are what I bought. I got them from Circuit City for about $110 each, on sale at the time. Honestly, I'd recommend them to anyone who wants garage / workshop speakers and has the room for them....especially for the Parts Express price. I might even buy two more since I've now found them cheaper than what I paid!!

I bought some black speaker cloth and velcro'd it over the fronts just to keep the sawdust out of the drivers.

Mark is right, and I'd check Guitar Center as well. That is where I got my amp, and found they have tons of stuff on sale all the time like PA speakers, etc.

That part about working on a '74 Mustang always cracks me up, the worst one ever made. I wonder if anyone even has one now.

Yup, the very first year of the Mustang II.

I had a 1976 Mustang 2, it was a piece of crap. Possibly the very worst car I ever owned. Well that and a Chevy Chevette.

'72 to '78 were the rock bottom years for North American auto manufacturing. Ford did a really good job of bringing back the Mustang after coming within a hairs breath of cancelling it entirely.

No, we've had to discontinue the Garage Speakers because we couldn't find a dependable supplier of the metal-like garage vinyl wrap. Thanks for the plug, anyway.

Buy some M3's or Algonquins and then some aluminum diamond plate, cut some plating to wrap around the outside of the speaker and voila, garage speaker supreme.

I desided to go with the M3's.I ordered them on monday they just showed up yesterday afternoon.I'm going to do some A/B listening today.

Thanks Doc.A/B with my M22's.You were right on the money with your description of the M3's being less detailed then the M22's,not laid back.They seem to be alot more forgiving with compressed music such as Led-zepplin mother ship,Nickleback and Airbourne.I just played Frim fram sauce by Diana Krall.The M22's have the clear advantage in the imageing department.Must get back to listening.
