I'm curious if anyone has experience streaming music to their stereo over Bluetooth. What kind of quality can I expect?

I've been considering the squeezebox for a while, but I don't like the idea of having to turn the PC on all the time. Ideally I could stream music right from my ipod to the receiver while using the ipod as a remote. I am now considering the Sony Two-Way Bluetooth Adapter for iPod and MP3 Players, but first I would like to know if bluetooth deteriorates sound quality.

Are there any other options out there that any of you know of that do not require a music server?

Bluetooth 2.0 has enough bandwidth for lossless transmission, but it is not ideal. If you are already using compression for your iPod, then it can quite enough.
How much are they asking for that adater?

I'll be curious to know if that works out. Sounds cool.

I assume you're using an iPod Touch? I had hoped this was a combo bluetooth dongle for the iPod and receiving station on the other end. Doesn't appear to be the case.

Just checked the product. Looks cute.
But what iPod are you using? As far as I know, only the iPhone with software 3.0 has bluetooth.

Good point. I would perhaps instead get something like this then since it comes with an adapter for the ipod to enable it to transmit bluetooth. And I would most likely not get the one from monster, but the same idea.

Here's something:
Sony add on. Of course, that makes the price for the system $100, but...

That's good. It makes sense they thought of the "other end".

I actually have the above linked Sony Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter for iPod, unopened and still in a box. I accidentally ended up with two of them, woops. I have used one of the extensively, prior to the 3.0 upgrade, and here are my thoughts:

1) If you are not moving the iPod around while using it, the signal is solid and clear. I used it in the lab all the time, and it was great with my headphones because I could just place my iPhone in the middle of the lab and walk 30 feet in any direction without loosing any noticeable audio fidelity. The iPhone is paired with a Motorola S9-HD headset.

2) For some reason, the second I put the iPhone/BT combo in my pocket and tried to listen to it, it blew hard. I have heard this does no happen to other people though.

PM if you have any questions about the unopened one in my possession, may be able to help you out.

Hmm... I am planning on using the ipod when sitting around or walking around my living room/kitchen so it will not be in one place all the time. Thanks for the insight. I have to think about it. If I decide to go this route I will send you a PM.

I have the sony bt adapter for my str-dg820 and my kid plays music ( if you can call it that ) off his netbook and it works well. When i first set it up he could move all over the house, but something has gone awry and now he must sit still. Fidelty seems ok,though it is still compressed music. On the netbook i use a generic usb adapter and the toshiba bluetooth stack which seems to work well.
