I got my shipping notification today, a set of M60s are going to come visit, and hopefully stay!

These speakers are for 2 channel music listening in our living room. I have a Denon 2112 AVR downstairs running our HT setup. I am running cable upstairs and the M60s will be run off of the "Zone2" outputs on the AVR. I have a beefy PC in the family room with all of our media on it, and all of the HT gear is connected to our LAN. I am hoping to eliminate the stereo "stack" in the living room, replacing it with an iPod, AirPlay, the Denon app and a the M60s.

Looking forward to hearing how the M60s sound? Has anyone A/Bd them with the PSB Image T6? That's one of the other contenders for a full time gig in my living room. I really like the idea of supporting a domestic manufacturer though. Although the T6s are designed in Canada, they are manufactured in China.

If the M60s sound great, I may need to convince SWMBO that the HT setup needs an update!

Cheers,

David

Welcome, David! I think you're going to love the M60s. Don't forget to post your impressions when you've had a chance to set them up, and we love photos around here. (Except Bridgman.... the poor guy is still on dialup).

I can't help you specifically with the T6 comparison, as I've never heard them. I stopped looking at other speakers when I fell in love and married my M60s. smile

I've heard some PSB speakers before but I'm not sure whether they were T6's or not. Either way, you're looking at two quality, natural sounding speakers between the Axioms and PSB. Have fun with your auditioning!

The speakers arrived today! My cabling guy did not get here to fish speaker wire up from the basement yet, so I dusted off my 20 year old 200 watt 2 channel Yamaha amp and the CD player that has been hiding in a box with it since we renovated and took the M60s for a spin.

Compared to the Energy e3.1 speakers on stands that used to be in the livingroom, the M60s seem huge! I'm sure we'll get over that though. The finish seems well executed but I will give them a closer look tomorrow in the light of the day. Asthetically, the design is a bit ho-hum, but as a guy who rides a BMW GS, I am clearly a function over form sort, so this is OK with me.

I now understand what some have said about the M60s. They "play it like it is". Bad recordings sound, well, bad - and good recordings sound stellar! A quick tour of some of my favorite CDs reveal a nice wide soundstage, even at moderate listening levels. At about half throttle on the Yammie, low base notes were indeed felt as much as they were heard. I know Enya's music is not generally very popular, but a long time ago I started listening critically to speakers with some of her music, and the dynamic range really is a good test. I am quite satisfied with how the M60s play that CD.

Another standout recoding for my ears anyway, is Michael Buble, and Nelly Furtado's rendition of Quando, Quando, Quando, Quando. Might as well keep the whole experience Canadian eh! Vocals are very forward (duh!) in this song, and the M60s seem to do a good job of reproducing the male and female parts with each having a very distinct position in the imaginary room in front of me. The vocals seem very life-like as well. The accoustic bass in this piece is a bit boomy at the beginning of the song, but I have the speakers backed up right in to the wall out of necessity. At more normal listening levels, this goes away.

Collective Soul, Sting, ZZ Top and Rush all made it to the player as well. So far all sound great except for some of the Tracks off of ZZ Top "Ten Texas Tales". I think the recording engineer was drunk. Either that or they just set the reel-to-reel spinning in thier garage.

More listening to come!

Excellent David! Thanks for sharing your excitement! We all remember when we first got out speakers!

Can you send me a jar of that "new speaker smell"? smile

AS a fellow M60 owner, I understand and also enjoyed the experience of my first decent set of speakers. The jaw dropping clarity on great recordings and the realization that "Hey these guys were not kidding. There is a lot of terribly recorded music out there now that I can actually tell the difference."

I'm on year four or five or so with my M60s and they still pleasantly surprise me sometimes. Enjoy !!!

My old m60's will always hold a special place in my heart. They were the first speaker that gave me that "jaw hitting the floor" experience. I can't imagine anything better than my m80's, well maybe V3's. smile

+1 on the 60's. I usually have a renewed jaw drop when I return home from vacation. Just watchin' commercials is enough...
