I've had my M80's for about 2 months now and I have to say these speakers absouluty ROCKS.I listen to rock and blues and the M80's are great for this type of music.I push them with a Parasound p/hp850 pre,Kenwood M2a amp @220rms into 8 ohm about 315 rms into 4 ohm Cd player is sonyC222es.Thanks to all for the reviews and advise on the M80s.I also run a Hsu Vtf2 sub. Before this I had a pair of Def Techs the pro tower 400 with an internal 125 watt sub.The M80's all but destroy the Def Techs on All levels including the bass.

What's the details on your listening room ? H x W x L, volume, adjacent rooms with openings that can be closed off (or not), etc...?
How do you have them set up ? Distance between, from side walls and from back wall ?
One last question, do you have a coffee table in front of the main seating ?

You forgot to ask if he has a ceiling fan, as that can lead to the "staccato effect".

I have them set in my living room 21x15x7 and yes there is an opening that I cannot close off. They are 9feet apart and the lisntening position is also 9 feet from the speakers 18 inches from the back wall, toed in an inch and a half. And yes there is a coffee table in front of the listening position. Ya have to put you're feet somewhere don't ya.By the way the ceiling fan has to be on to keep the amp cool.

Sounds pretty close to my set up.. Only I STILL don't have a real sub..
Now, the coffee table.. I just read where that is one of the worse things you can do to a sound system.. The report stated that it really messes up the timing with regard to the sound waves reaching the listener... They bounce off the table and bounce under it, and in so doing, reach your ears later than the direct radiating waves.. Other than taking the table out of the middle of the room, it would appear you need to replace it with a soft surface ottoman type foot stool..
I've got a sold slab of marble, sitting smack in the middle.. The thing must weight 70 plus lbs.. Now they tell me I HAVE to MOVE it ?? That's just great.. I thought I was all done with tweeking when I installed the left-handed signal shifter ??? Sheeeeeeesh...
Those M80's are someting else.. I need to go find a bigger amp ?? hahhaaa

MIKEY,
You should cruise down to my place and hear the SVS - WOW! Or maybe curtis wouldnt mind having a house guest to listen to the VTF-3... Im sure he loves me offering his house to others

Yeah...go see Curtis. He won't mind! Heck if you want to hear the VTF-2, you're more than welcome to stop by my place. I have the M60's, so it'll be a closer approximation to what you'll hear with your setup. Curtis has the bigger VTF-3, but his speakers are the Ascend 340's.

Re: the coffee table... Another solution is to have it always MESSY with various things left on top of it. They act as a nice sound diffuser, alleviating the bad effects of early reflections.

Now that you mention it, I believe the sound is better on Friday nights ?? Could it be the two medium pizzas my lovely wife sets down on the coffee table just before we hit the play button ?? I wonder if they have ever experienced this anomaly at the National Research Council in Canada ?? ""One large Canadian Bacon 'n Ham.. Hold the Anchovies !""

Send me your add.. I may be able to swing by on the 31st.. Heading down to Brawley..
Say, was my VP150 sitting on the top of the Mits, or hanging, when u demo'd ? I have it flying again, only moved it out from the front wall, so it's face is about even with the screen on the Mits, half way between the top of the set and the ceiling.. Sweet.. In fact, it's working out so nice, I'm going to give the M80's another go at the old 'high wire' act.. Only this time, I won't tilt them, I'll just elevate them half way between the floor and ceiling..
Did you get your stands built ?

Hahah..Kolbe is always inviting everyone over to Curtis's place... We should plan a surprise party of something ?
By the way, where abouts in LA is your place ?

Not sure who you're asking...(note to Axiom webmaster: the ability to quote previous posts would be GREAT!)

If you were asking me, I'm in West LA. Just off the 405 - first exit north of the 10 freeway.

Sorry Craig.. Yes, it was to you.. Poking fun at Kolbe..
And the post does indicate the intended recipient by putting [re: spiffnme] in the header.. See that ? Or are you for something a little different ?

spiff, if you view in threaded mode, it's easier to keep track of the flow of things. I personally like to see everything at once, so I only use threaded mode when I get confused.

As for the coffee table I just read the new issue of stereophile and was thinking of getting myself some of those room treatments .It should only cost a couple grand that way I can keep the coffee table in place.Maybe I'll just keep all junk my wife put on the table and save some $$$.If Sushi says its works its good enought for me.
