I'm not a klipsch fan...when I hear the M80's are bright it makes me concerned they are similar to Klipsch speakers...comments?

Thanks!

To my ears, the Axioms are NO WAY as aggressive or bright as Klipsch. These brands are VERY different sounding from each other. Personally, I cannot possibly be fond of the residual horn coloration of Klipsch, which some people seem to love.

As always, when it comes to speaker sound, YMMV. So, listen for yourself.

I totally agree with you Sushi... I found the Klipsches very harsh, and at times "airy" what ever that means to you I guess the best way I can describe it is almost like having a built in echo.

Either way the M80's, to me, have a much better cleaner sound.

Klipsch?

Just looking at those speakers hurts my ears...

I too was concerned about the term 'bright' so I bought M50s. After listening to them I realized I like 'detail' and needed more. So I ordered the M60s. Very happy now!

In the process I had the M50s and M60s side by side with some Klipsch RF-3s I think. The Klipsch had *very* clear highs, but the midrange suffered greatly, muddy almost, the M60s really shined there. It was a no brainer. The RF-3s did have a little more bass output, though not necessarily more accurate output, I knew I'd be adding a sub so that wasn't an issue.

It's been said repeatedly that the M60s sound similar to the M80s, just the 80s can play louder. If that's true, and you do like detail, don't be scared by bright.

A friend of mine used to own a pair of Klipsch La Scala's and were quite expensive and impressive looking. But after hearing them and piercing my eardrums with a shrill sound I was forever turned off by the Klipsch name.

you should keep in mind that klipsch speakers have the abillity to play louder than a lot of other speakers,so when they do get to the ear drum popping level,it may be at a volume that other speakers cant even reach.the m 80s do play loud and clean, and are much easier on the ears,i do silll like my klipsches, but on my main system,i am using the axioms, and have no regrets....ron

Yea, I realize the Klipsch horns have a spl rating of like 107db which is actually quite amazing, but they seem to be tuned way too high without much midrange. He had these two massive La Scala's in his bedroom that was only like 10'x 12' and was extreme overkill. The La Scala's were regarded as one of best Klipsch speakers, but I found they way too shrill for my taste. Personally I like a silk dome tweeter compared to the horns.

How about the titanium dome tweeters on the Axioms?

One of the guys I work with has Klipsh, and kept telling me how great they are. So i went to his house and listened to them. My wife left the room because they were way to abrasive sounding. I can't stand them. I bought the m80's and love them. They are not near as bright as klipsh.
