speaker set up in room 10' x 13' 7.5' ceiling. what's the best placement for speakers, as a starting point? along 10' wall or 13' wall, and how far from the wall should speakers be? how far should I be sitting from speakers?

Either one of your two starting points will work well. I would tend to go with along the 10' wall with the seating about 11' back from the system. If you go the 13' wall then the seating should be against the opposite wall. The speakers will operate fine right up to about 4" from the wall. The point here is that your room may not like it. If it seems a bit boomy you will need to move the speakers out from the wall a bit, probably to about 12", experimenting required.

on one of the 10' sides i have two windows. on the other 10' I have a closet and the door. should i try to avoid putting the back of the speakers firing at the window. is there any reason glass may effect the sound. Maybe I'm better off just setting them up along the longer wall.

Glass if a very reflective surface but that does not mean it will be a problem. In fact in my own house one entire sidewall is glass. I think you are really going to have to try the set up both ways in order to know for sure what is going to be best in your room.

Do your sofa cushions contain Kapok, or a natural wool material? Acoustical experiments performed at Helsink Univeristy Research labs indicate that if a room is of a certain cubic dimension, and there is a glass area of less than 200 ft2, then the speakers should be placed........

There is no one magic formula for determining where, or how. The most complete answer I have ever heard, can from a respected designer of soem of the world's best audio gear - He said " It depends. How did it sound when you listened to it?"

This is the real key, and nobody can tell you how something will sound based on the building materials, furnishings, etc. You really need to set it up, see how it sounds. If it sounds not quite right (actually pleasing to you), then adjust it.
