I'm looking for someone to build furniture that will both function well (adequate ventilation, sound dampening, etc.) and look well (You guessed it: I'm married).

I live in London and would prefer something close but would consider other areas of the province.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Also, anyone recommend pre-made stuff? I've seen Salamander but their stuff is very expensive for what you get, especially in Canada, where the markup is huge.
You live in London but you're looking for furniture in Ontario? 'Splain yo'self!
That would be London, Ontario. A city of 330,000 halfway between Toronto and Detroit.

Don't worry. I'm from NY and never heard of London, Ontario until I met my future wife.
Americans and geographic knowledge -- you can have one or the other.

So newsguy, after abusing you a bit in one of your other postings - welcome to the mayhem. .

If you are truly looking for someone to build you some a/v furniture, you will likely need to find a local craf$tman who will help you but may be a bit expen$ive. I lucked out because my neighbor is a major league amateur woodworker.

A couple of things I did was to 1) check the Yellow Pages under a variety of searches looking for this kind of person (cabinet maker, for example), and 2) I went to several unfinished furniture stores in the area, took a look at what they had to offer and asked around for a local woodworking genius. 1 & 2 both paid dividends, but my neighbor was the best of all. In fact, he's building me a really special CD / DVD storage cabinet as we speak.

Anyhow, welcome and good luck with the project.
newsguy, check out the unfinished furniture store on York St., beside London Audio. My wife and I bought our dining room furniture there.

If you don't find what you are looking for, send me a PM. I work for a company that sells gas fireplaces and custom mantles in Kitchener. (about an hour from you) We have our own wood shop, and have built many wall units that incorporate our customer's audio systems.

Shawn

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm following a similar route and will meet with two potential builders tomorrow.
