Hello all,

Another new guy here. I hope all my Canadian friends had a very good Thanksgiving! I'll try and keep this short but it probably won't happen! I stumbled onto the Axiom site earlier this year and have been reading the posts daily trying to keep up with the reviews etc. I have been in the market for new speakers for a long time. However, the urge to upgrade hadn't hit me until finding the Axiom site. Anyhow, after months of seeing the glowing reviews of the whole Axiom lineup, I pulled out the Amex and ordered some custom Cinnamon Beech M60Ti's (my wife chose the finish). I figured that the easiest way to bring some new speakers into the house was to involve the wife. Everyone raves about the customer service and friendly approach of the Axiom staff. This is no B.S. These people do go the extra mile!
Anyhow, let's cut to the chase. I took the advice from many of you by listening to B & W 703's. Loved these speakers however I can't justify spending $4,500.00 CDN + taxes!!
The M60's are pretty damn close to the B & W's. At least I have money left over to purchase a Denon 2805 Receiver, a VP100, some QS8's etc. To make along storey short, the M60's have been going since September 29th. I have listened/viewed to the following concert DVD's and have been knocked out by the sound:
- Led Zeppelin (2 DVD's)
- Eagles (Hell Freezes Over)
- Yes (Keys to Ascension)
- Metallica (Cunning Stunts, S & M)
- Rush (In Rio)Gotta love Neil Pearts drum solo!!!!
- Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Live at the Royal Albert Hall)crappy recording! Great performance
- Ozzy (Live & Loud, Live at Budokan)
- U2 (Elevation, ZOO TV, Rattle & Hum)
- Hall & Oates (Live in Concert)
- Dave Matthews Band (The Gorge, Central Park Concert, Live at Folsom Field & Listener Supported)
I am just starting to dip into my 500+ cd's to sort out the crappy recordings from the good. Having a 4 month old baby boy in the house only affords one very select listening time!
In summary: I am running the M60's in a 14W' x 22L' x 8H' room. I removed the speakers from their boxes, placed them roughly 6-1/2' apart (space restrictions) and 14" from the back wall. They sounded great from the very first cd (John Mayer - Heavier Things) to Norah Jones! I have rambled on far too long! I'll post an update when I get through some of my cd collection.
I want to thank all the people on the Axiom message board for spending their precious time promoting and contributing to this wonderful product!
You sure convinced this guy to take a chance!
Peace to you all!

Shaun, welcome and glad to hear that you're enjoying your M60s. If your space restrictions would allow, a little more separation between the speakers would probably give you an even better result.

I think my M60s are coming tomorrow! You've made me even more excited - I didn't know that was possible. I feel like I'm seven years old the on Christmas eve. My first major stereo upgrade in nearly 20 years.

Thanks John,

You are correct. I just played with the positioning a little bit (8' spacing) and the sound opened up a touch. The location I have the speakers in is temporary. They will be relocated to a wider spacing shortly (rearranging furniture). I was just trying to convey that the M60's are not as difficult to postion as some people have indicated. Maybe I am blessed with a room with great acoustics? I just finished listening to John Mayer (Inside Wants Out, Room for Squares & Heavier Things) and was very impressed. BTW, for those who say these speakers are bright, you all must have perfect hearing. Maybe my hearing is a little off after years of concerts (Metallica this year with Van Halen coming up in a few weeks)? But in the end, to coin a phrase from one of the board members "trust your ears" If you like what you hear, that is all that matters at the the end of the day.
Cheers!

I'm even more psyched now than ever too! The "Kid at Christmas" analogy is a good one!

Unfortunately, I'm sure my M60s are a few weeks off yet, and I'm not ordering the center, surrounds and sub till a check clears in another day or so. Stupid Columbus Day holiday... making me wait an extra day for the bank....

I really wanted to do the responsible thing and order the B-Stock stuff.... but it's amazing how after waiting several years for any major upgrading, these few weeks are killing me...especially with others' posts of "I got mine, and my life is changed!"...

Congrats Rock_Head... I just joined the M60 club (and consequently left the M2i club) last wednesday, and I couldn't be happier.

Welcome aboard. Once you start dipping into the studio albums you're going to like the M60s even more. There's something about the Axiom speakers that really makes a well produced (some might say over-produced, I guess ) album really shine.

If you find a black album with a prism on the front you might want to put that in first. Something about the Dark Side of the Moon in the title...

Sounds like you have good room dimensions as well. Enjoy !

Hiya Shaun, welcome to audio Nirvana! Wait until you start pounding away on your DVDs. You get to a whole new place with those. Also, I didn't see any mention of a sub. Since you have been spending time on the board, I'm guessing that's just a matter of time. There's another dimension to add. Hope you keep enjoying your gear.

Thanks for the welcome John!
I have already listened/watched the "Pulse" DVD by Pink Floyd. They perform Dark side of the Moon. I was contemplating purchasing the 30th Anniversary cd version of Dark Side of the Moon. The reviews are quite good. Does anyone have it? I have most of the recent cd's. I have seen Pink Floyd live twice and they are a real treat!
Cheers!

I have just ordered the 30th anniv. version of DSOM, should be here in a day or two. I don't have an SACD player so will just be able to listen to the regular CD layer but still looking forward to it. My DSOM copies are both vinyl (one regular, one picture disk, don't ask) so I have high hopes for the CD.

Never got a chance to see Floyd live, one of my big regrets. I did manage to see ELP almost a dozen times though

Hi Ray,
You are correct. This is an audio nirvana! No, I haven't purchased a sub yet. I will probably go for a VP100 next. Then a set of QS8's. Slowly building the system etc. The bass from the M60's is pretty awesome as is! You can really turn these speakers up. Thankfully my room is very good acoustically. I'll get a sub eventually however I really want to get a new Denon A/V Receiver now that the Axioms are here! The urge to upgrade has struck!!!!!!

Hi John,
Did you receive the Pink Floyd DSOM 30th anniversary disc yet? Was just curious how it sounds.
Cheers,
Shaun

Sounds awesome......surprisingly enough, the girls love it. It's always in my player ready to go.

Not received yet; it went from "ships in 24 hours" to "ships in 6-7 days" right after I ordered it ;(
Posted By: DJ_Stunna Re: Proud Owner of Axiom M60Ti's! - 10/19/04 02:55 PM
That must be very frustrating... Had you just ordered a few days earlier...

On a side note... Is it really true what they say about DSOM and Alice in Wonderland, or is it just people's suggestible minds seeing and hearing what isn't really there?

What do they say about DSOTM and "Alice in Wonderland"?

Now, you CAN use DSOTM as an alternate soundtrack for "The Wizard of Oz"...

I am interested in what you are referring to...

Whoops - That's what I meant... Wizard of Oz. I always confuse those two because in both of them, the main character is away from home.

I did see this on the internet though... Alice on the Moon

Of course, however, looking at the site a little deeper, it shows this as the original.
