No jokes, please...

Does anyone else here have the new Norah Jones album (Feels Like Home)? More specifically, has anyone else noticed an intermittent buzz in the left channel of "Sunrise"? I'm just about positive it's a blown tweeter on my M22, but I can't duplicate the buzz on any other CD or movie. It's almost a type of sympathetic resonance, but I was curious whether anyone else was familiar with the song and had heard this too. Might be time to give Amie a call...

Hi Mike,

I have noticed a similar problem with this song however I hear a crackling sound about every 5 seconds. This is coming from the right channel tweeter. I know it is not the Axiom speakers because I noticed this on my old speakers which had dual tweeters, midranges and woofers. Could be a flaw in the recording maybe? I should have returned the cd when it was first purchased.
Cheers

It happens on my system, too. It's not the tweeter.

it has been mentioned in another forum that some of the songs on that CD were not recorded properly.

Hmm...I suppose I'm glad to hear it. After I posted my question, I went back and listened (or tried to listen) to the rest of the CD. It's all over the album! It's unfortunate, because it seems like it would be a pretty good CD if it weren't for that insufferable crackling. Glad to know I'm not losing my mind (or my ears) yet, and thanks for the responses.

That seems almost unimaginable to me. One of the most highly anticipated albums of 2004, and it's not recorded properly? Absurd. Some heads had to have rolled for that.

The thing is, I doubt it's noticeable on the majority of sound systems out there.

On "Sunrise", the first word of the song is (go figure...) "Sunrise". Listen to the "i" sound on the second syllable, left channel. I'm at work right now, so I don't have the disc with me to reference and point out any other examples, but this one example I can definitely remember.

I'm working from home today and after reading this post, could not help but play her CD. I've listened to "Sunrise" several times, and put my ear up against the left (and right) speaker. I've listened at low level, medium level, high level... I'm a little puzzled... no pops, crackles or distortion. Just smooth beautiful sound. I have come up with 3 possibilities.

1. My hearing is shot?
2. Someone picked-up on the bad recording early on and released a 'revised' version of the CD?
3. My Paradigm Studio 60's are not revealing enough for me to hear the problems?

Anyone else NOT hear any problems with this CD? It's one of my new favourites and sounds fantastic: very well recorded disk.

Well, through my M22's on Sunrise I couldn't hear it, but on track 4 "Carnival Town" I could hear a resonance. It sounded like my left tweeter was loose and it was being shaken badly. It occured maybe 5-6 times during that song. I couldn't hear it on any other tracks. I think overall it is still a well-recorded disc. Maybe a few mistakes were made on one of the final processes.

I should have clarified my earlier post.

Apparently, the first "batch" of discs that were produced had the issue.

i've heard even her first cd has problems similar to this.

On a different note, anybody else notice the sound of the metronome in the background during "Above Ground"?

Not to pick nits, but chances are it's the drummer's click track.

As an Emmy award winning soundmixer, I can personally guarantee that Norah Jones album was recorded and mixed by some of the best and brightest in the industry. I have not been able to listen to the passage that is being discussed yet, but I would personally be shocked if it was a recording or mixing issue.

In reply to:

ludacriss or sevendust

Now aint that two unique ends of the spectrum! (I'm with you on Sevendust though! I like em! Ever listen to Fishbone? Sevendust owes a lot to them!)

Party at ground zero, a "B" movie starring you, and the world will turn into flowing vapour stew (wakka doo wakka doo).

U-G-L-Y you ain't got no alibi, you're just ug-ly... U-G-L-Y you don't have a reason why you're so ugly-uglay-uglay.

And I won't even get into "Lyin' *ss B****".

I hate ska but I like Fishbone, what does that say?

Good to see I'm not crazy. I downloaded this album from realnetworks music store, burned it to CD, and definitely hear the crackeling on a couple of tracks. I figured it had to do with the transfer onto the computer or onto the CD. It is annoying, but it's a good album nonetheless.
