I just added a new CD player to my stereo system which has made such a wonderful improvement that I thought I'd share.

I've gone tubie, got the Antique Sound Labs MG S1 15 DT, 5 (five) watts per channel in triode mode, and just got the tubed AH! Njoe Tjoeb (where'd they come up with that name?) CD player, driving my M3Tis and a little 8" Velodyne Sub. All I can say is holy moly, I'm hearing the music!

The thing about the M3s is that whatever upgrades you do to your system, the M3s are right there and never left behind. They are awesome speakers.

Only one upgrade left - Mapleshade clearview golden helix speaker wire - really thin wire which has received some great reviews. $85 for an 8' pair - an additional $70 for some mojo crystalization from "stress relieved metallurgy." OK so some kind of voodoo stuff happens on the quantum level that no one can explain but which dogs and audiophile reviewers can hear. I'll try it.

Will report back, but that's it, I'm done.

Are the M3s great or what!?
I will be picking up a 8Watt Antique Sound Labs amp next week myself. Everyone who has used tubes with the M3s report it is a great match.
Two questions; are you running the M3s full range or using both low and hight pass filters with your velodyne sub? And do you feel the 5W amp is giving you enough volume? Thank you.

Hello Hologram

I have a cross over on the Velodyne sub. I have it set at about 80Hz. I don't think I have any cross over setting on my integrated amp. I'm still experimenting and open to any suggestions.

The ASL MG S1 15 DT puts out 5 watts pc in triode mode and 15 in pentode. I leave it in triode. Here's a picture of one similar to mine except my model has a bias meter and a nice ruby power-on light.

Hello

Just curious, how much does your amp run? And could you address the issue of volume at 5 watts?

Thanks

Hi JQuark

The MGS1 15DT goes for about $750 new, but can be had for about $500 on Audiogon. You can check out Antique Sound Labs at

I listen to mostly jazz, accoustical guitar, female vocals, and listen to music at modest levels. I have no problem getting good and sweet volume from the 5 watt p/c tube amp.

The ASL has a pentode mode with 15 watts p/c, but I much prefer the sound in triode mode.

Good luck.
