I am thinking of purchasing a pair of M80ti and a NAD T743 A/V Receiver. My room is 13.5 feet by 15.5 feet with 8 foot ceilings. Any thoughts? Thanks.

a) Why buy a surround sound receiver with only two speakers?

b) The point of the m80s over the M60s is that they can take more power.. the m60s are quoted as good to 250 watts. That receiver only outputs a fraction of that. The only other thing they m80s do better is put out more bass, but when you consider the extra cost of the m80s you can just get a sub with the 60s.

I think you'd be better off with qs4s, a vp100, and m22tis with that receiver. Or keep the M80s and get a nice large stereo amp to go with them. Either way, you'll be getting an awesome setup.

I see your point, but to go from 80's to 22's....ouch.

I'd say 60's, and get a Something from Denon, HK, or Yamaha instead and you'll probably still have money left over to put towards future surround speakers if that's what your planning. If your fixated with NAD, get a yamaha 2500 or 1500, and a nad 2 channel amp and you'll be better off.

Yeah that is a pretty big leap backwards.Maybe he wants an A/V reciever now so he can build a H/T system a couple peices at a time.If that is the case it would do no good getting a 2 channel receiver in the first place.Though the M80s might be a bit of overkill in that size room I say go for it if that's what you want.You certainly will not be disappointed.

Well, I was thinking of getting surround sound at some point. So I thought I'd start with a decent set of front speakers. I wasn't too sure about the amp -- if you have any suggestions regarding a good amp I'd appreciate it. I don't want to overbuy. I'm kind of new to this -- I haven't had to buy a speaker / receiver combination in about 30 years. But I got a new HDTV and then I realized I could probably get a better audio experience not only for the TV but for all my CDs. Thanks.

I have a stereo set up with my M80s.I use a preamp amp for it.There a quite a few happy Denon and H/K owner on the board that I'm sure will give you some good advice.

How does an Epic 60 350 sound with a Pioneer VSX-54TX sound?

The other receivers I have been looking at are HK. I'm hung up between AVR435 and AVR635. It doesn't look like I would overload the M60ti, the QS8, the EP350 or the VP100.

Nickbuol, a member on this forum has to 54tx and loves it. Others have had good results with the Elite line as well. I have the Axiom 60's, 150, 350, and 4 Qs8's with a Denon 2805 and love the setup. I will be moving down to a much larger new HT room in my basement soon, I may get a second 350 to help fill the large room, or maybe a 500

If you are looking at HK, definately consider refurbs. Harman Kardon is called harmanaudio on ebay and sells directly to customers from ebay. The prices are very low. I bought a drefurbe stereo receiver that MSRPs for $449 on harman kardon's website for $193 with shipping off of their ebay store. Very nice.

If you don't have to have the latest stuff, the HK AVR 630 could suffice. If you must have the latest, perhaps the HK AVR 635 would be for you.

Lastly, if you'd like a newer model with a silly amount of power, try this. At 7x110 wpc, and 55 lbs, it's a beast.

The 80s are awesome, but my concern was that the money spent on the 80s in an HT system could be spent elsewhere if you weren't buying enough power to make the upgrade a concern. However for two channel, I've read their bass makes a nice difference, especially if you don't like having a sub on for two channel.

seems to be a lot of people having troubles with h/k lately. Granted, you only mostly hear the bad side on forums and such, but I've read so much about it that I totally crossed off h/k from my list. That and the fact that they tend to be a warm sounding amp of which I do not like.
