I've been playing around with the calibration of my speakers and I just noticed I have a slight buzz coming from all 7 speakers, it's not coming from my amp because that only controls 5 of the channels, and it's not noticeable while watchin TV at normal levels. Is this normal to hear this or should I be checking for possible problems.

if I was checking to this I would ask

do you know what 60 cycle hum sounds like and is that it ?
( i'm making a poor assumption your in usa, i shoulda checked)

older home with poor grounding?
flourescent light on the same circuit ?
are all devices plugged into the same outlet ? even subwoofer?
if you switch input on reciever does it quit ?
if you turn of reciever does it quit ?
if you disconnect all inputs on reciever does it quit ?
if you disconnect cable tv line does it quit ?

and last but not least
your next door neighbor doesnt have a large cb antenna on his roof does he? or have 7 antennas on his vehicle

well there's some food for thought

So much to check, so little time Some of the things you mentioned I did check the rest I'll go through in the next day or so, I did isolate the sound to the tweeters on the speakers though.

I had a similar problem and all you can do is start disconnecting and reconnecting one input at a time to try and isolate the problem. If that doesn't work then you are potentially into a ground loop problem which is a little more complicated to remedy. For me it turned out to be the cable for TV. It wasn't well grounded. Once grounded properly (against copper water line), all was silent.

Good luck - Paul

Michael,

Have you noticed if the buzz changes or stops if you change inputs (say CD to DVD or TV) on the Denon?

Does the buzz get louder with a volume change?

By buzz I mean high-pitched sound.

Or are you getting low hum?

Doug,
The buzz doesn't stop with any input change, the sound is like there are bees in the tweeters, as the volume is increased the buzz doesn't get any louder. It's not apparent unless the volume is way down to the point where the TV can barely be heard.
It's not a major problem as far as listening to stuff, but as far as i know that sound shouldn't be there.

Micheal,

Let me ask another round.

Turn on the Denon and amps. Turn off all other devices (tv, dvd, SAT, etc).

Do you still hear the buzz?

Set you denon to tv or dvd.

With your ear to a tweeter (NO devices are on), cycle through music, stereo, cinema, Neo, etc. Can you hear a very slight change in the volume of the buzz?

Doug,
Finally got a chance to check your second question.
With just the Denon and amp on I can still hear the buzz, as I cycle through devices on the Denon there is no change in the volume of the buzzing, the buzzing does go away when I cycle to a device that is not setup such as VCR and phono.

Ummmm, Michael?

Did you check to make sure that there aren't bees in the tweeter? I mean, just in case?

Do you have cable? Disconnect it from wherever it comes in to your system, and see if it goes away. I recently switched from DirecTV to cable and a buzz was introduced to my system, and was solved by an inline filter similar to the one Axiom sells.

Michael,

The good news (for me) is that I have found someone with the same Denon problem that I have.

The bad news is that everything that I have tried has NOT fixed the problem.

One suggestion is that I received was to make sure that unused inputs were turned off in "Digital In Assignment". Another was to turn off unused trigger outs in the "Trigger Setup".

If I disconnect everyhing from the Denon I still have a buzz, so it must be in the Denon. I can make certain set-ups that make the buzz louder (just barely), but cannot make it go away.
