I was wiping down my speakers with a microfiber cloth today and noticed what appears to be some residue on the top of my EP600's surround. I dampened a corner of my MF cloth and wiped a bit, but that didn't seem to help. I searched here for awhile and on Google but couldn't come up with anything. Does anyone have recommendations?
I don't understand what you mean by "EP600 surround".
I'm guessing he means the rubber whoozit around the woofer cone.
Yes, I'm talking about the rubber (poly?) surround...
shown in "distressed" style here.
If it doesn't come of with gentle rubbing, I wouldn't worry about it as it won't effect the sound at all. Probably just a stray bit of glue.
Yeah that's what I ended up thinking because who wants to damage their sub just by cleaning it?
I only happened to see it when some stray sunlight filtered in and cast a very unforgiving light on the sub.
It certainly won't affect the sound but if this gunk contains any oxidizing agents, it will react with the surround and serve to weaken it with time possibly leading to perforation. If it's solid, it's probably inert and won't harm anything. Is it solid or is it an emulsion?
You could always put the grill cover back on.
