What changes if any occurred to the M80 when they came out with V2

Thanks in advance

I don't think there were any changes that happened right at the point Axiom went to the v2 designation -- in other words a v2 is probably the same as a v1 from a few months earlier -- but there were a number of changes that rolled into production over the previous years. I believe the main ones were :

1. Changing the speaker layout from TMTMWW to TTMMWW

2. Changing the cabinet edges, either making them a bit more rounded or a bit less rounded (sorry, I forget)

3. Fine-tuning the crossover design

Which I understand is an on going thing.

This topic seems to keep coming up, search search search. \:\)

As the others have hinted, the reason for the V2 designation was a result of changes that happened over a period of years. Many of these changes are very subtle. For the most part there haven't been to many major changes since the 90's.

Hello Jim,

Bridgman is essentially correct, however, the M80 crossover changes took place several years before the V2 designation was applied.

The series of double-blind listening tests between the "old" M80 crossover and the new tweaked version all happened during the summer of 2003, and the new crossover was implemented by Fall of 2003 as a running change. That resulted in audibly smoother upper midrange performance, so all subsequent M80s incorporated the new crossover. The V2 designation wasn't applied until 2005.

There have been no significant changes to the M80 crossover since 2003. By "significant," I mean that the changes would result in audible differences in tonal balance.

Regards,

Thanks for the info everybody. I did try doing a search prior to posting but was unsuccessful.

No problem, Axiom has been having issues with the new search tool. Also, if you don't change the date range, or use the advanced search options, it is hard to get good results. \:\)
