Hello,
Has anyone listened to both the M60's and M80's? I can't decide on which ones to get. I don't have a very large room right now, but might one day, and I don't want to have to buy new speakers for a while. Do the 60's sound just as good as the 80's? I would hate to sacrifice sound quality, and I don't know if I should get the 80's for possibly a bigger place. Any help would really really be appreciated!!

A searce will yield a lot of results about this topic.

I have never heard the m60's but had every intention of getting them. All I could find to audition was the m80's, and after lsitening to those I knew I had to have them. MAybe stop by the "hearing things" forum and look at the first post to see if anyone is in your area with either the m60, the m80, or perhaps both.

My m80's are in a 2100 CF room (but it is open to a kitchen and a hallway) and they sound fantastic.

What type of receiver will you be using to drive the speakers?

I've heard both of them, but not back to back, and not at anywhere near the same volumes. I was impressed by both. Since I haven't heard them back to back, I can't speak to the differences, but if it's going to bug you, get the M80s.

What type of music do you listen to and from what sources (mp3 vs. cd)

I have done an a/b comparison of both and there is a definite difference between the two. The M80 gives more detail than the 60. This is a good thing if your source is good, but from others comments here, stuff like compressed MP3s may not sound as good on the 80s as the 60s.

I personally liked the 80s better and think they are well worth the extra cost.

I have a pretty ecclectic musical taste, so i will probably be listening to a little bit of everything. I am going to get either the epic 60 or epic 80 systems, so I will be using the speakers for movies also. I plan on getting a Denon 3808 receiver, as it has all the goodies i want, and is supposed to sound pretty good. Axiom says it will adequately power the M80's to a 3500 cubic foot room, but i figured if I get them, I can always get an amp if i need to fill a larger area.

Thats a fair sized room. I'm putting M80s in a 1700 cu.ft. room.

The 3808 seems to be the receiver of choice around here.

Both speakers sound great and would probably exceed your wishes, but if you get the upgratis bug or I wonder if thoughts, just go with the M80's

My 'L' shaped room calculates out to just over 3000cu.ft. and I have the M80s with the 3808, you should love that system.

Are you going to have a sub?
Posted By: polishfunky1 Re: M60's or M80's? - 05/17/08 05:22 PM
yes, I was going to get the whole 60 or 80 package with the 350 sub.

Hi polishfunky1,

The M80s are Axiom's no-compromise top of the line tower speaker, and to address your earlier questions, the M80 is slightly smoother on male and female vocals than the M60s or the M22s and because it has a larger enclosure, the M80 has deeper and more rock-solid lower and upper bass output than the 60, with or without a subwoofer. These differences are not dramatic but they are quite audible on immediate A/B comparisons, which I do at the Axiom plant and at my home (I don't have M60s at my home.)

Moreover, because it uses six drivers per side, the M80s has a musical "ease" at louder listening volumes that is just stunning. Given the size of your room, go with the M80s.

Regards,

Alan

I think an M60 with a sub would be great. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gotten smaller mains with the EP500s.

If the M80's are no-compromise, does that mean that the rumors of a larger forthcoming model can't be true?

Just feeling impish today \:D

Heresy! Shouldn't this be in the "What's your favorite chocolate bar?" thread? \:\)

I love my M80s, but I think the M60s would suffice (for the budget conscious) with a good sub.

Skor one for srood!

If the extra money for the 80's is not a concern then the answer should be obvious... knowing you have the best is kinda nice too \:\)

In all seriousness, I agree with SRoode. Having heard the M60s with an EP500, I am very impressed with them.

having heard the m80's with an ep500, I am very impressed with them \:\) Actually, having heard the m80's with an ep600 and an A1400 amp, I am even more impresse!
