Moving into a house and there are 7 of these wired in the living room. Hoping to find the model/specs. Any help would be great. \:\)

If you would pop the speaker grill and hold a ruler against the driver, I'd take a stab at it.
Posted By: SirQuack Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 12:48 AM
From the front it might be hard to tell, look on the back of the speaker, there should be a label. What is the positioning of the other speakers, hopefully not all on the ceiling?
Posted By: jakewash Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 12:57 AM
How tall are they? They look like they could be either a M3 if it is about 19" then it would be an M22
Posted By: ClaytonC Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 01:03 AM
haha..I guess im less prepared than I thought. Next time I go to the house I'll measure them and take a look at the back.

And for some reason they are all around the ceiling...I plan on moving them.
Posted By: EFalardeau Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 01:04 AM
Actually, just removing the grill might help to see the number of drivers.
Posted By: Wid Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 01:05 AM

I'd have to guess they are Axioms \:\)
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 02:37 AM
They look like M2s to me, but early models with that grill label. The previous owner had good taste. ;\)
Posted By: SirQuack Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 02:39 AM
That is what I was thinking at first, but can't tell how tall they are from the pic..
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 02:40 AM
I think we can infer the height from the width of the grill opening and the size of the bracket behind them.

That said, I'm sure they will prove to be M22s, thereby making me sound like a fool. Which would not be atypical...
Posted By: SirQuack Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 02:42 AM
I see your point, looking at the width compared to the height, you might be right.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 03:13 AM
The M22's grille doesn't cover the entire front of the speaker. It looks too short to be an M22, anyway.
Posted By: St_PatGuy Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 03:19 AM
It's definitely not an M80, although the grilles on those go all the way down, too.
Posted By: myrison Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 03:26 AM
What a fun trivia project this is proving to be. We should have one of these posts per week. \:D

M2 is my vote too, just because I don't want to vote for M22 and thereby insinuate that I believe Ken is a fool.

Still, that's an old grill style. None of the current grills look remotely like that.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 03:33 AM
My guess is an M2, pre-"ti" period. Other than the visual cue of the Axiom + Millenia logo, you can see that the front facets are less rounded than current generation Axiom speakers.
Posted By: HomeDad Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 04:48 AM
I'm guessing they are the Millennia M2i.
Posted By: medic8r Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 01:28 PM
Nah. They are clearly BOSE Lifestyle cubes.
Posted By: SirQuack Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 01:45 PM
I think they are Ninja'd 22's. \:\)
Posted By: terzaghi Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 05:31 PM
no serial numbers or anything on the back?

Look for something on the back and call axiom!
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 06:01 PM
I bet Amie or Ian can ID them easily.
Posted By: axiom Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 06:46 PM
Hello All;

We showed this photo to Axiom's Mike Rogers and he believes it's late 80s/early 90s and it's either an AX1 or an AX1.2 - the cabinets are the same but they have a different woofer and tweeter - one is 1 inch and one is 3/4.

We'll definitely need to see this speaker with the grille off to get the final verdict!

If you're looking for pics of Axiom's older speaker models, check out http://www.axiomaudio.com/vintage.html

Hope this helps!
Posted By: jakewash Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 06:55 PM
I didn't realize the AX series had the anti-standing wave cabinets too.
Posted By: myrison Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 07:34 PM
Thanks for the link to the vintage speakers. I haven't seen any of these before.

Hi all,

I'm just catching up with this thread and I'd agree with Mike. When I saw the grille and the logo, I thought AX1.5, but I think the 1.5 was taller. Forgot about the 1.2.

Update: I got out my old copy of the Sound&Vision (Canada) Audio/Video Preview 1996 (published in the fall of 1995) which I edited, and the AX 1.2 was 12 inches tall and used a 5.25-inch woofer and 3/4-in tweeter.

The AX 1.5 Bookshelf was 14 inches tall, with a 6.5-in. woofer and the same tweeter. And the "full-size" AX 1.5 had the same drivers but in an 18-inch-tall cabinet. The list prices in Canada were, respectively, $199/pair, $249/pair and $299/pair.

There were even larger bookshelf models (AX2) with an 8-inch woofer and wider cabinet.

Regards,

Even with the Millenia badge on the grill?
Posted By: alan Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 08:54 PM
You've got a point, but I've never kept track of the "Millennia" label other than the spelling. Axiom has always spelled it with two "n's" (the correct spelling) whereas when Paradigm used (stole?) the term, they spelled it with one "n". The term wasn't used in any of the equipment directories I have on my shelf, likely because there wasn't room in the columns for all those characters.

I dug out the 1999 Audio Equipment Directory, published in New York, which I also helped edit and the Axiom listings there were all the M1, M2, M3, M40, M50 "ti" line. So between 1995 and 1999, the entire line-up changed.

In short, we need to see these with the grills off. ;\)
Posted By: tomtuttle Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/07/08 09:16 PM
Once you've seen one speaker with the grills off, you pretty much want to see the rest of them.

*nodding in agreement*

After two pages of debate on this, I would guess that if nothing else, as a group we've convinced the OP that we're completely nuts. \:D

You can't say we're not fanatical about answering his question though!

Not to mention the hodgepodge of comic book characters, simpsons characters and starwars characters...
Posted By: ClaytonC Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/08/08 05:29 PM
Haha I don't think you guys are completely nuts..I'm pretty much the same way when it comes to the video end of things. I'm just starting to really learn about audio.

I'm glad I've provided you guys with a little challenge. I'll be at the house this weekend and I'll pop off the grill and snap a picture.

Thanks for the help so far! I'm going to be building a home theater/media room in this house. Whether I use the speakers or order new ones (likely) I'm sure I'll have some questions for you guys!
Posted By: myrison Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/08/08 05:48 PM
Cool, in that case, congrats on the new house are in order. Let us know when you get started building. Should be fun to follow the progress.

Yeah, yeah, but what comic book character are you?

Show us your drivers!

They have to climb up on some jock's shoulders, first.

Not all of them did,as I have a pair of AX3's from the late 1980's that were not ASW designed. The AX5 had a rear firing built in sub, and the AX3 had a front firing model

I am sure that Axiom must have pics of the older models. I recently found a marketing piece and my factory tour pictures from the 1990 time period. I am working on getting them scanned and posted
Posted By: jakewash Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/10/08 03:59 AM
Those non-ASW AX's I have seen before on e-bay etc. I had not seen pre Ti Axioms with the ASW cabinets till this.

Geez BB, this conversation goes back four years!
Posted By: BBIBH Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/11/08 01:30 PM
Yes, it does....most of it flew by without me finding the pics. I also frequent the board a lot less, so that did not help

I recently moved and when cleaning out closets and such, there they were!!!

I plan to have them scanned - brochure as well - and them figure out how to post them.

Couple of things stuck out when I looked at the Axiom brochure - the slogan "We engineer Pleasure" on the front, and a picture of a youg engineering type, tall thin with a moustache and full head of hair, a young Ian!!! Inside a Post It note that I wrote "$38.82 each, Noreen, Joe Mon-Fri 9-5" I made this when I called to exchange drivers fro my AX3's in approx. 1996!!

As for the factory, it is shocking how it was a real garage operation from the inside!!!

Something just isn't right with the discontinuity between that slogan and the photo.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that.

Now you're reminding me of the moustache ride commercial from SNL.
Posted By: BBIBH Re: Can anyone identify this speaker? - 10/11/08 04:47 PM
Before this starts to raise the eyebrows of the local constabulary and medical community, let me clarify

The cover has a nice picture of an grouping of speakers with that slogan underneath the picture. The picture of Ian I mentioned has Ian holding a woofer, dressed in a tie, standing beside some electronic equipment.

Something I just noticed was that when I toured, I had a picture of myself leaning against some of the very same equipment!!

Sure, the tour was informal, have a look and don't break the production gear!!!

Not what your twisted mind envisions....unless that was what your tour spiralled into!!! LOL
