I am trying to figure out the possible source for a problem I have been having with my EP500. As of late the sub has been making a low random thumping noise, almost like a heart beat I guess you could say.

This is happening when the sub is on, but receiving not signal. I check my connnections and they appear to be good. Even with the line in unplugged and just the sub plugged into the wall I still get the random noise. Since you guys are the experts, this was the first place I thought to go. Anything thought would be greatly apreciated.

The amp might be on its way out? (not really sure). Call axioms toll free number 1-866-244-8796 and get their opinion.

That's not true. Once you showed genuine compassion for someone with a bass-unfriendly room. Wait a minute... It was YOUR room. That was just self-pity! Whiner! \:\)

Shouldn't have to call Axiom, many of us have had this issue, if it is the same thing.

Just unplug the power cable from the wall, OR turn the power switch off/on. This is a know problem that many of us have had in the past with EP subs. I was upstairs once and heard a low sound like you describe. I walked all over the house and found it was my EP600 emmiting a very lowwww random thumping sound, almost like thunder in the instance.

Anyway, that should fix your problem. I think over time they build up some electronic charge or something...

I'm suprised MarKS does not remember this, he created this graphic. \:\)

This might be of help if sirquack suggestion does not fix the issue.

Never knew cellphones to close to the sub could cause this type of problem...

OmahaBlu,

Unplug the electrical power cord overnight and it should solve the issue. If not, dial Axiom's toll free number 1.866.244.8796 for assistance.

Thanks so much for all the responses, I was gone for a few days and just recently got around to getting back to this thread. Sirquack's description is exactly what I have been hearing. With the 4th of July coming up it has been reminding me of hearing fireworks off in the distance. It is strange, I will hear the noise and then may not hear it again for an hour, very random.

Anyway, I first tried leaving the EP500 off for a day, but that did not seem to do the trick. I then tried tried unplugging it for over 24 hours. It did not return right away, but about an hour or so after plugging it back in it started again. Looks like I will be giving Axiom a call and see if they have anymore trouble shooting ideas. At least I am dealing with one of the bests and have no concerns about dealing with customer service.

A replacement amp should solve the issue I bet.

WoW Omaha, you must have a little different issue. Normally, if I unplug the sub for just a few minutes, it takes care of the issues, have never had to do it overnight...
