Hello:

I am slooooooooowly building my home theatre audio system. I currently have a pair of M2's for front L+R and a VP100 for the centre. I am now ready for a couple of speakers for the rears (5.1 setup). Because the home theatre set-up is in part of a larger room, I am forced to ceiling mount the rear speakers. I am thinking of using W2 on-wall speakers and ceiling mounting them (facing down) - directly above the seating area.

Has anyone done this and happy with it? I'd use QS4's, but the multi-directional output of the speaker don't (in my opinion) work well for a ceiling application.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Will it work, yes, is it ideal for surround applications and to follow Dolby standards, no. Why would you think the Q's mounted on the ceiling do not work for ceiling applications?

My HT is in the basement. Ceilings aren't quite 8'. As I mentioned before, The HT is a portion of the room. Rear speakers would hang down and potentially bop someone in the head.

Floor stands wouldn't work either - just based on where the set-up is and , more importantly, would not meet wife-ready code (funny how often this code comes into practice ).

What I have now are very small Yamaha speakers from a HTiB that hang down from the ceiling. Although they sound like crap, they are not intrusive. QS4's would be too big (I think - see code mention above).
