OK,
Until the main room is finished ( Theatre ) I have a house open concept to the LIving room/Kitchen. I temporarly have my tv in the living room and just bought a HK for more or less stereo use upstairs. May leave the TV in the room yet instead of my daughters room. However, the room is 24'w x 34'l. WOuld two M22's and two ep175's be suffient. It will mainly be used for a second tv or listening to music upstairs or morning sport highlights/ news etc. or if a wife/gf happens to come into the picture. The main movie room is going to have the gear. I am not going to be playing it at high volumn levels so really M80's are too much. nor do I want to spend alot on it as that will be for the movie room.
but am wondering if maybe M60's and a ep350 would be best. BUt, would two ep175's not be better than one EP350? specially at lower volumn level. Too simplify I am talking equivilent to a Denon 3805 at about quarter volumn would be the loudest it would be used and that would be once in a while specially with music and me being out on the deck BBQ'ing

My vote would be for M60s (or M80s as technically you can't have too big. That's only a dependent of the volume knob) plus the ep350 for a room. However, that's a personal preference. I doubt my ears would be displeased at all with M22s filling that space. If your space also includes higher than normal ceilings, it might add actual justification towards the 60-80s instead of just my bias.

However, here's an idea because you want to ultimately save for the HT room....

If the HT room you refer to wanting to spend more on in the end is actually smaller than this living space, then it definately would not need floor standers (unless you just like them, like me.) So, you could always get M22s now for the bigger living space and then when you ready to start into the full HT system in the smaller room, you could very safely transfer the M22s into the HT room and then be in a good position to decide if you want to then put floor standers in the bigger space.

You'll be buying a second set of fronts for the HT room anyways, so this method allows you to play it safe and possibly save money or be able to justify that you need to spend more on the floor standers without wasting the M22s

Someday, I'm going to write a post that I don't have to go back and edit it after I re-read it.

No the main movie room is 15' x 23' with a 6' entrance area for the bar/popcorn machine. This is were the M80's and possibly two EP500's are going. I am buying seperates with possibly a Denon 38xx for the pre/pro and a three channel for the fronts and two - two channels for the rears. still researching on amps and a suitable pre/pro.
I really do not want floor speakers in the living room, if I can get away with it. nor huge subs ...as it is mainly just for when you have that company over and or entertaining at night etc. As I said, if I am out on the deck BBQ'ing or in te kitchen making supper or breakfast I can turn on a tv and catch Oprah or Dr. Phil lol or check the sports highlites. Also, maybe just turn on some music and sound decent. But, I don't want to buy the M22's and two EP175's and find out they are not effiencient and have to pay to ship them all back for a M60 and a EP350.

M22+ sub is nearly equivalent to M80. M80+sub is even better still. Get the M22's and subs, the 175 should be good enough for music or get the EP400 it is an amazing little sub with great musical qualities, after playing with one a few years back I still want to get one.

Go with the M22's and a sub. Personally, I'd get one EP350 instead of two EP175's.

That's a fact, just upgraded to the 150 from the 100. No charge to me.

What is your budget for your amps?

I would recommend getting a Krell Kav 250a/3 and a 250a

These are the amps that I wound up deciding on. 250W at 8ohms and 500W at 4 ohms. In my opinion this is one of the best deals you can get, granted you will have to get some pre-owned units, I don't know how you feel about buying pre-owned.

I would also say, to use the 2 channel for the m80's and the 3 channel for the center and surrounds.

Well, about $5000 cdn for pre/pro and AMPs. I am going to start with a Denon then put in a three channel and let the Denon worry about the rears. Then if I think I need to get a couple two channels for the rears. But, now that you mention it maybe a good two channel for the fronts and a three for the Centre/rear and let the Denon take care of the back rears.

I was looking at the Emotiva XPA-3 and UPA2's also Outlaws mono blocks. But, the I found a Denon 3ch AMp at Dakmart that you Americans can enjoy. They are not sold in Canada, but I can order through Dakmart just warranty is no good as it would cost ore for shipping back and forth than it's worth. Which also, is an issue with the Emo's and Outlaws.

Second hand gear is not an issue hell it's going to be used anyways. May look at some of those Krell's maybe even Aragon which is a poormans Krell:)

LOL, I am the same.

Most forums give you about two minutes to edit before they put the little edit note at the bottom... Not here

Here they have a checkmark to remove the note completely!
Not that I have ever used it...
