I have recently ordered a pair of M60 and it is on its way. I was just wondering what receiver would work best for my M60? Thank you guys.

Johnny, welcome. There really isn't such a thing as a "best" receiver or any need to "match" a receiver to a specific speaker. The M60(and the other Axiom speakers)is of average sensitivity and any of the receivers typically rated anywhere in the 100 watt area is fine for powering it at all safe listening levels at the usual home listening distances.

Get the features that you want at the best price you can find that fits your budget. You don't mention a budget, so I won't make a specific suggestion, but in general it can be said that the best buys are available in factory refurbished units, which should be at least as reliable as a brand-new one. You might take a look at Accessories4less and check out an Onkyo receiver with Audyssey MultEQ automatic calibration and room equalization at a suitable price. For example, the 709 looks very attractive to me.

Welcome....

John is right on the mark. Look for features. Some key ones for some people are on-screen interface (a lot easier to adjust levels and such from your seat using a remote than standing by the receiver reading a small display. Automatic calibration is a big one for a lot of people (John mentions Audyssey which is well known) but most if not all of the other big name companies have that or their own version. It is a great starting point for calibrating your setup to compensate for issues with the room acoustics.

You will usually find that there are certain price points that make a difference. I mean, you will be able to drive them very nicely once you get around $500+ almost regardless of any brand. that doesn't mean that the lower priced/featured $300 receiver can't do it though, but you need to do much more research on the lower cost models because some of them are inexpensive, and some of them are cheap. You get the difference.... smile

I've had great luck with Pioneer Elite stuff, but many others love Denon, Onkyo, etc. Stay away from any "off brand" models and go from there.

Hi Johnny 1, If you are looking for an Audio Video Receiver add Marantz and NAD to the brands which have been so far recommended.

If you are looking for a stereo receiver then also consider the RR2150 which is presently on sale with free shipping - Outlaw Audio

Thank you, guys for your infos. I have looked at both NAD and Marantz but I don't know what model I need. My budget is around $700 to $1000. Of course, I'm hoping to spend at least as possible. I have a set of B&W CM5. I bought them at Magnolia HiFi. Before I bought them I had it hooked up to a Marantz SR6005 and it sound really good but when the sale person hooked up to the Pioneer Elite SC-35 it sounded so much better. SR6005 caused about $650 when the Elite SC-35 caused $1000. I ended up buying the SC-35. Im just wondering if buying a much more expensive receiver would really make the same different with the M60. Thank you guys for all your infos again.

Johnny, beware of demonstrations by salesmen. There's no reason why the SC-35 would sound better than the 6005 in a fair comparison at equal volume levels. So no, you won't get better sound with a more expensive receiver.

To stay under the budget you mention, I'll recommend that you get the excellent Onkyo 709 for about $550 which I linked in my previous reply.

Thank you, John! I will definitely look into the Onkyo 709.

Yea, not that the SC-35 isn't an impressive unit, but at those price points, they should all be amazing sounding... They clearly have that unit tweaked better than the other.

I was surprised at how different the listening modes on my Onkyo 3007 are. Some modes sound great and some modes sound terrible with the exact same source material, so you are at the mercy of how the demo units are set up in store. It makes hard to say one AVR would sound better than the other since most of them are very adjustable. I would definitely recommend one with some type of automatic calibration process as described above as well.
